The outside setting was beautiful. Except for the fact that they were cleaning the roof and you could not use the deck. I realize that needs to be done, but it would have been nice to know it was happening during our stay. It was one of the things we enjoy the most, to sit out side and view the river. When we arrived we were told that we were upgraded to a river view. Great! The room was spacious and nice, until we tried to take a shower and the handle came off. They were unable to fix it. I understand things like this can happen, but we're told that we would need to change rooms to a garden view as that was all they had left, fine. The problem was the attitude that the staff had. There was no sorry about that or any type of compensation. The room was probably the worse one on the property. It was a view of the fire escape. It must have backup to the boiler room as the lights on the wall rattled all night, we ended up taking the off the wall. Bathroom sink was always backed up. The front staff could care less. There was never a how was you stay or even a thank you for coming. I thought maybe it was us, but I watched and that was how they treated many of the guests. A guest let them know the water cooler was out and the staff member rolled their eyes and sighed. Needless to say we will not be staying at the hotel again. I suggest that they have a little training for their staff in customer service.

We stayed one night and enjoyed it! A lovely property in a gorgeous setting, great views of life on the river gorge. Our room was on the small side with a garden view but as described and clean with good amenities. Lovely lady at check-in. The dinner was amazing, both the food, staff and the wine - especially our waiter Tony - who was knowledgeable about the food and wine and a pleasure throughout. We also had lunch when we arrived and breakfast the next morning - the food was good. The only thing we disliked is the waitress who waited our table for lunch and breakfast - everything was laboured everything was too much, and she chose to only address my husband even at times when it was me asking the question! She single-handedly brought our experience down.

The building is old so floors were extremely squeaky. As in, we could not sleep because oddly the floor above us someone was walking back and forth even through 3 or 4am. Constantly. Didn’t get a great nights sleep bc of this. Area around hotel was cute - decent view. East parking. But nothing within walking distance. For this price, would likely not come back. The place is in desperate need of renovation.

Staff was fantastic. But no reomote in our room for the TV. Contacted the front desk. Delivered a remote, but didn't work. Contacted the front desk again. He changed the batteries and tried a different remote. Did not work. He said they he would add a note for when we check out and they would make it right. So no TV for the night. At check out, I told them of the issue with the TV. There was no apology and he said he'd get my receipt. I asked about some discount because of the TV, and he gave me the manager's card. Told me to give them a call or email m, and he can't authorize discounts. Very disappointed. I guess I will have to call or email them. Not sure what can be done at this point.

The historical quality and the majority of the grounds were beautiful. But many of their water features appear to not work. Their patio was closed due to falling debris which they addressed in a timely manner. But that meant looking at and listening to equipment all day fixing the roof. Their extra lot and 2nd exit was filled with garbage and giant shipping containers. The tv was bizarre with no guide. You just have to flip through. The bathroom inside the shower was dark and their was no water pressure, no fan. The closet was giant size but had a funky odor. The main light into the room didnt work. Again, we loved the grounds and the main halls gave off "The Shinning" vibes, but in a good way. Staff was very nice and warm.
