The Waihi Beach Surf Lifesaving Club is also close by, handy for families keen on beach safety during summer. From here, it's an easy walk or short drive to explore the wider stretch of Waihi Beach's 10km coastline, including Orokawa Scenic Reserve for coastal views and a swim at Orokawa Bay, or Bowentown to the south for calmer harbour swimming and fishing.



Historic Waihi township, home to the Martha Mine gold workings and the Waihi Gold Discovery Centre, is a short drive away, and Tauranga and Mount Maunganui are both within easy reach for a day trip - making this a great base for a relaxed beach week or a springboard to explore the wider Bay of Plenty.



Getting Around:

The beach is right at the end of Leo Street - a confirmed 400m, so it's a genuinely quick walk down for a swim. There are also shops close to the Waihi Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, a shorter walk or drive than the main village. The main Waihi Beach village, with a wider range of shops, cafés, and takeaways, is about a 20-minute walk, or a short drive if you'd rather not make the trip on foot. Waihi township, home to the Martha Mine and Waihi Gold Discovery Centre, is about 9km away, roughly an 8–9 minute drive. Tauranga is around 40–45 minutes by car, and Mount Maunganui is similar, making both easy day-trip options. A car is recommended for exploring further afield or into the main village, though the beach and nearby shops are right on your doorstep.
