NEW Volcano Forest Evenings by the Fire and Hot Tub

Summary:

Trade the beach crowds for native birds, cool forest air, and a quiet soak under the trees. Anthurium Cottage sits in Volcano near Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, with two bedrooms, two baths, and room for six. French windows and doors look out to the Ohia Forest, while the open kitchen, dining, and living areas make it easy to come back together after a crater walk or lava tube visit. Light the wood fireplace on a misty evening, take a private hot-tub soak, or settle into the jetted tub before bed. The large lanai is a good spot for coffee when the forest is waking up. This is not a sunny resort address. It is a genuinely different Big Island stay for a family or couple that wants to explore the volcano, breathe deep, and sleep surrounded by green.

The Space:

French windows and doors wrap the cottage, keeping the Ohia Forest close from nearly every room. Two bedrooms and two baths sleep six, with an open kitchen, dining, and living area for sharing a meal after the park. French country details add warmth, while the jetted tub, private hot tub, and wood fireplace are especially welcome on Volcano's cool, misty nights.

Guest Access:

Guests at Anthurium Cottage enjoy access to a private hot tub and a garden backyard tucked into the rainforest of Volcano on the Big Island. A private entrance with a lit path at night, plus a patio or balcony, make it easy to relax outdoors and take in the cool upcountry air.

The Neighborhood:

Volcano is a cool, forested village beside Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, where tree ferns, mist, and native forest take the place of beach traffic. Drive into the park for crater views, lava tube walks, and the Chain of Craters Road, then stop in Volcano village for a casual meal or provisions. This area is not especially walkable, and a car is the practical way to explore. Evenings can be cool enough for a fire or hot tub. It is the right Big Island base for families who want geology, hikes, and quiet woods alongside their Hawai'i time.

Getting Around:

Hilo International Airport is about 45 minutes away, an easy drive through lush upcountry forest. A rental car is a must for exploring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and reaching Hilo's beaches, shopping, and restaurants. Volcano village itself is small and walkable for a few local shops and cafes. Parking is generally simple, available on site or along quiet residential streets.

Great little place near the national park. Loved the Hawaiian mountain home vibe and hot tub. Our boys loved the chickens roaming through in the morning and tossing the football in the yard. Easy to find, clear instructions, as advertised. A little cold in the morning. Thank you for our stay!

This house was a lovely respite for us, just what we were looking for. Very close to HVNP, lovely outdoor spaces, the hot tub was a fantastic bonus for my husband's aching back. House felt secluded, in the best way.The only ding I'm giving is for prompt communication; we were visiting right after the huge storms, encountering flight cancellations, and wondering if we should even come, and needed to make decisions promptly. Other than that, we had all of the necessary information and very much enjoyed our stay! Highly recommended.

Very nice house! A little hard to find. Everything was really clean and the house had everything we needed for a weekend getaway. It was cold so we used the fireplace and that was wonderful. Very peaceful and quiet location.

This property was one of the most comfortable and visually stunning places we have stayed. The house had plenty of space, great antique furniture, numerous places to sit and read, comfortable beds, and great porches that looked out on a beautiful setting of tree ferns and 'O'hia trees. Especially stunning were the Jack Jefferies photos of birds. (We are bird people and know folks to know Jack well.) The location was perfect for us, next to the national park and near the town of Volcano. Hilo is not that far away for food and restaurants. (We did not want to be in Kona!) Several other pluses: plenty of towels, a hot tub, a grill, and an extra clean house.

Secluded retreat

This property is extremely well cared for. The landscaping and home are absolutely gorgeous. The deck and window doors allow for a comfortable “outdoor” experience even when it rains. The hot tub was a fantastic added bonus for the cooler evenings. Loved the location as well.

Birthday trip in Volcano

We had an excellent weekend. The only reason for the 4 stars for cleanliness is just the hot tub. We still enjoyed it but it most definitely needed a cleaning. I would 100% stay here again! So worth it! Much Mahalos for a great experience!

Great condo in a great location

Extremely clean 2-bedroom condo in a great location/proximity to Waikoloa restaurants and shops with a very decent view of the ocean and sunset. Well stocked kitchen, plenty of beach towels, chairs, coolers, etc. Although on-line listing referred to 10 minutes walking to the beach, we found that that driving to and parking few minutes from the A-beach was a better option.

This was our first time at this property after having stayed at another house in the area for our last 5-6 trips. Overall, the house was clean and comfortable. The towel warmers in the bathrooms were a nice touch and my husband is missing those now that we are back home. We never used the bbq area or the hot tub, but both looked well-maintained. I spent my mornings on the back porch (lanai) enjoying my coffee and listening to the sound of the rain and the coqui frogs, while an occasional chicken or pheasant wandered thru the yard. We would rent this place again.
