The Big Mack is a log cabin above Twin Lakes, with the lake across the street and the Sawatch Range all around. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the great room, a huge deck facing the water, and sunsets every night.

The name comes from the Mackinaw, the monster lake trout Twin Lakes is known for. Anglers can walk down with a rod at sunrise, and in winter the lake freezes over for ice fishing.

ON THE WATER

Twin Lakes is right there for fishing, canoeing, paddleboarding and boating. Bring your own boards, boats and gear; we don't provide water toys.

Guest access

The entire cabin, the deck and outdoor kitchen, the home gym in the garage, and the timber pavilion below the deck.

Interaction with guests

We're John and Colleen, a married couple who run the Big Mack ourselves. We keep it low-key: you'll have the place to yourselves, and we're a quick message away. We're most responsive between 8 AM and 8 PM, but reach out any time and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Other things to note

A few things worth knowing before you book:

- Mountain cabin, no A/C. Summer nights are cool: open the windows at night, close them in the morning and the cabin stays comfortable.

- Winter roads can be icy. Four-wheel drive is recommended from November through April. The upstairs bedrooms have wall heaters for cold nights.

- Well water. Pressure is great, just be mindful of running everything at once.

- Toilet paper only in the toilets (septic system).

- We stock a starter supply of paper goods and coffee pods. For longer stays, plan to pick up more in Leadville or Buena Vista.

- Wildlife country: bears, moose, and the occasional bug come with the territory. Keep food inside and let us know right away if anything needs attention.

- Exterior cameras cover the parking area and front door for everyone's safety. Please don't disconnect them.

- Guests must be 25+ to book. No smoking inside (a cleaning fee applies if there's evidence of smoking).

- No parties, events, weddings or receptions of any size. Events require a special permit from the county, and hosting one would put our rental license at risk. We're sorry we can't make exceptions.

- We can't refund for weather, road closures, power outages or other things outside our control. Travel insurance is a good idea for mountain trips.
