Unfortunately, my otherwise lovely stay at this property was sullied by a ludicrous damage charge. I noticed a $500 charge on my card the day after my stay. Thinking that this was a routine hold, I patiently waited for it to be reversed. When it was not, I called and was told I was charged a $500 damage fee because the door was "busted". When I questioned this, I was sent a photo of a small chip (about 2 inches) in the side of the door, along with the claim that this chip required the entire door to be replaced.
What I did not receive was an explanation of why I was being held responsible for this - I do not recall causing any damage to the door. Further, this very much appeared to be cosmetic rather than functional damage. I did not rip the door off its hinges, punch a hole through it, or break the handle.
To add insult to injury, when I asked why I was not contacted before this fee was charged to my credit card, I was told "since you booked on Hotels.com we do not have your contact information". This is blatantly false - I have been contacted several times in the past through this platform by proprietors. Staff could have reached out directly to customer service to contact me, but none of that was done.
Overall, would not recommend this property to anyone. It is incredibly expensive for Northern Ontario and customer service is atrocious.
