Locanda del podestà: 17th century mansion in Chianti
"This was the perfect place for our family of eight to stay for ten days. The kids wanted to meet people and not just hop from museum to museum in an American bubble. They kicked around a soccer ball in the piazza almost every night with local boys. There was live music. The ladies who own the gelato shop next door held a dance party in the piazza featuring a DJ playing old vinyl. When you go there mention that Jim sent you — the dancing old man. Gabriella will smile. It’s a short walk to a large grocery store and the restaurants are all recommended. We ate at L’Artevino twice. The bus stop is near the grocery store and the bus will take you to Empoli where you have easy access to trains to Florence, Pisa, Rome and beyond. Buying tickets online was fast and effortless. We used NCC for some transfers to more out-of-the-way places like a Cashmere Goat Farm in the hills of Chianti. The vans they use easily fit out family of eight including a car seat for the two-year-old.And Bruno, our host, was friendly, very responsible and accommodating. Of all the VRBO hosts we have had, he has been the best. There is something very comforting to stay in a quiet, small, very old village with friendly people greeting you on the street. And the accommodation did not disappoint."
