This charming 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom house is located on a serene 1/2 acre, privately gated, property in the heart of beautiful Playa Avellanas.

Each bedroom has its own California King sized bed, with 1500 count Egyptian cotton sheets, Flatscreen Television with Apple TV, streaming and Netflix, ice cold AC, ceiling fans, strong WiFi, and with lots of lovely local antiques and art work throughout

There is a fully equipped kitchen, along with a giant teak dining table, and 5 extra large incredibly comfortable hammocks to choose from.

The house has a giant family room, also used as an extra living room with dining area, and third super comfy bedroom, for those large family and group gatherings.

This is the perfect place for relaxation. The entire property is very safe, quiet, peaceful & secure.

Enjoy gorgeous beach walks and breath taking sunsets, incredible swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, fishing, golf, wildlife and bird watching and so much more.

Your reservation includes paid exclusive beach access through neighboring Cabinas Las Olas, and their world famous mangrove boardwalk.

It is only a short walk to the beach out front, as well as lots of local restaurants, bars, groceries and shops. Rental cars are not necessary. Enjoy a large variety of local tours. Transfers from Liberia airport (LIR), and taxis can all be easily arranged for you.

There are two other rental houses on this property as well, all private and separate, and sharing the same gate.

Ben was an amazing host. Playa Avellanas is very rural, and Ben guided us in right to his gate, no problem. Ben is super attentive, and was checking in with us frequently. He saved us a lot of money with his spot on recommendations regarding excursions and restaurants. The boardwalk to the beach, and the beach are amazing. Restaurants in the area - off the charts!

The property is located just across from a great surf spot. However, there is a bit of a walk through a beautiful Mangrove boardwalk to get there. Just down the road, there's more accessible surf spots that you can drive right up to. The property felt very safe with a gate that was always locked. The house was very spacious and had three king size beds with each bedroom having its own air conditioning and bathroom. The house is a bit dark but I know that Ben is planning to install more lighting. The hot water was a bit hit or miss but honestly given the heat, cold showers felt totally fine. Ben is super responsive and friendly. He's very willing to provide advice for spots to visit around the area. The listing does say that there is washer and dryer but the washer is a bit primitive and you just dry your clothes on the clothesline which was fine as it dried very quickly given the heat. Overall a great stay for our family.

Ben was a fabulous host and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The location of this beach house and the close and convenient beach access is its main selling point for sure. The house itself was a little more rustic than we anticipated but we found it comfortable. Kitchen is very small and has only the most basic supplies but nearby restaurants are exceptional so we didn’t mind. Overall a positive experience. The beach is BEAUTIFUL!!

Ben was an amazing host. He wanted our family to have a great vacation and offered his time and local knowledge to make that happen. The house was perfect. It was clean, comfortable and private. The 8-10 minute walk to the beach on the boardwalk through the mangroves was a daily delight. We couldn’t have asked for anything more! Driving back to Maine after our arrival back in Boston, my son asked what everyone’s highlight of the trip was. No one was able to come up with a highlight because the entire trip was exceptional!

Loved this place!

This property was fantastic and we absolutely loved our stay here! It was only a 10 minute walk or so to the beach which was stunning. It was homey, clean, secure, filled with wildlife, and let me just say I think I may have taken the best naps of my life on those hammocks. Ben was a fantastic host and even provided private surfing lessons for our kiddos which they absolutely adored. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home!

family adventure

This VRBO was an excellent fit for out family: me, my spouse, and our two young adult children. We were together and yet had plenty of privacy- 3 bathrooms (fantastic showers) and 3 large comfortable beds! Ben is a wonderful host, providing great advice and recommendations, easy to contact at any time. We rented a car for our trip but rarely used it while in Avellanas, preferring to walk rather than ride around on rough roads. There is quite a variety of dining options that are 5-10 min walk. We cooked a few meals at the house as well. The stove works well. Beach access down the road and through Cabinas de Las Olas was a nice walk, especially when rewarded by magnificent surf and gorgeous sunsets.

Great stay

We had a great trip. The host/owner was on site and immediately responded to any concerns we had. We were there a month, so we became friends. We had several dinners together, and shared rides into tamarindo for groceries, produce, etc. he was great with our boys and their girlfriends, helping them with surf boards and advice. The listing, however,, was not accurate……there was no downhill or cross country skiing.

Authentic Costa Rica experience

If your looking for an authentic experience Ben’s beach house is the place for you. 1st Ben is a great communicator who was readily available pre-trip for any questions and recommendations we had as 1st time visitors. The beach house is ideally located within Avellanas beach town which is an up and coming location. The gated house while rustic is comfortable and we found we were able to relax while watching the Howler monkeys who regularly come through the property and ate as a troup from the mango trees. Amazing experience. Ben regularly checked in on us a group of ladies to ensure we were safe, and had all that we needed. Costa Rican roads are notorious for pot holes, crazy drivers and takes much more time to get to your destination, so keep that in mind if your a 1st time traveller to the country. In saying that a car is highly recommended to see further and to pick up supplies if self-catering. We had decided to eat breakfast on location and dine out each evening for dinner and the number of restaurants and quality of food did not disappoint. A few recommendations I made to Ben upon request for feedback are more chairs on location and beach chairs and umbrellas to make the beach day more comfortable. It would also be helpful as many VRBO locations have a binder with local activities & restaurants for when your not available to recommend. Amazing stay at PLAYA AVELLANAS BEACH HOUSE

My family and I had an amazing stay at Playa Avellanas Beach House. Ben is the best!! So thoughtful and truly cares about his guests. We were lucky enough to have him give our three kids surf lessons (all got up on a wave)!! The house is an easy walk to the beach and Ben gets his guests access to the famous board walk through the mangroves. The house is also very close to a number of restaurants and shops yet does not feel touristy at all. My family and I highly recommend staying with Ben and enjoying all the beauty Playa Avellanas has to offer.

We loved our stay here and were bummed to leave and to say goodbye to our host, Ben! This was a fantastic spot for our family of six, with three bedrooms, each featuring a king-size bed and its own bathroom. The local beach and the walk to it were amazing—we saw so much wildlife! Our host was incredibly helpful, providing excellent recommendations for restaurants and local activities. One highlight of our trip and a recommendation from our host was visiting a nearby turtle hatchery, where our kids got to release a baby turtle into the ocean. Ben even shared some freshly plantains for the property, which was a cool experience for our kids. Thanks again!

This place was great. Though Avellanas Beach was a short walk from the property, it felt secluded and remote. I could hear howler monkeys in the trees, which was cool. The house was gated and felt safe and had all the amenities we needed for our stay. I would gladly visit again.

Great Costa Rican Getaway

Stayed here with a group of 5. There was plenty of room for us in the house, it didn't feel cramped. The property was nice and secure and the hammocks were great to lounge in. We all felt like the walk to the beach was fine and would consider it the definition of walking distance. Would highly recommend this place for a group looking for an authentic Tico experience.

Beautiful Location Lovely House

The hammocks were so relaxing with all the nature sounds and birds singing. There were even howler monkeys and scarlett macaws in the yard. The walk to the beach was absolutely gorgeous and the beach was even more stunning. This was all around such a great stay. Can’t say enough nice things.

Aunts in every bathroom. Very heavy doors including main gate Combination Two adults needed to slide gate. Beach not what you call walking distance. Water pressure was so low could barely wash or brush teeth much less shower. The place was so depressing, we left after two nights. We are requesting some refund.

Live Like a Local

Ben and his staff went out of their way to initiate and maintain communication with us as soon as we arrived in Costa Rica. We loved spending time outside on the hammocks and deck, and the proximity to the beach and restaurants was appropriate walking distance for our family which included small children. We had some hiccups with hot water and outlets due to a lightening storm but Ben and his crew were very responsive and got the issues resolved promptly. The property felt safe and we were happy to experience life in a Costa Rican style home. I would recommend the property to anyone with similar expectations. We would stay there again! Thanks Ben!

We stayed with our adult children , 7 people all together. The house looks even better than the pictures, it was very clean and obvious pride taken in the preparations. The 3 California King beds were great, the AC a luxury and 3 bathrooms with showers! I booked this home based on good reviews about Ben himself and he didn't disappoint - he went above and beyond, he helped the surfers in our group, with boards, suggestions and lessons/coaching. He also was full of great info on the area, where to eat get groceries, tours and transport. He lives the Pura Vida life. The walk to the beach is about 10 minutes, we got to see howler monkeys and all sorts of birds , geckos lizards on the way. The boardwalk through the mangroves was the best. The price for accommodation is very reasonable based on location, Avellanas beach is gorgeous and not over crowded. Lolas and Las Olas were daily visits for food. We all hope to visit again.

All in all, we had a wonderful experience staying at Ben’s casa.

Wonderful host and perfect spot for our three-generation family for our first visit to Costa Rica. Each generation had a bathroom and bedroom with air conditioning, Wi-Fi and a TV. Our host, Ben, was very respectful of our privacy, and also very thoughtful about making sure our needs were met. He had fresh fruit waiting for us when we arrived, boogie boards for the kids to use, and even bought beach chairs for us grandparents to use! It was nice to be able to cook up a meal in the little kitchen and keep water chilled in the refrigerator. Ben even offered to have someone wash our clothes! He was available for any questions that we had about the house or surrounding area, and truly wanted us to have the best time! We felt very safe behind the large, locked gate and the outdoor security cameras added to our feeling of security. We enjoyed waking up to birds, squirrels and occasionally howler monkeys in the trees around the house. Our grandsons loved walking next door to get delicious ice cream cones from Barney and Georgiana at Surf Hub Gelato. The walk to the beach was possible for all of us and does entail walking on the dirt road for a short distance, then over a boardwalk without railings. Grandpa does have some balance issues, so the boardwalk was a little more challenging. We were close to many delicious restaurants (Ben had lots of recommendations), and small convenience markets. Ben also referred us to a local tour guide that took us on two wonderful tours.

Great place for an authentic Costa Rican experience

We are a family of four that stayed at Ben’s property. Two adults and two teenage boys. Ben was great to communicate with when we booked the place, and while we were there. The house has three king size beds giving everyone a lot of room for sleeping (although a few more pillows would have been nice). Each room had an air conditioning unit. There are also three full baths. One challenge we faced, and which Ben is getting fixed, is we could not run the air conditioning units and take hot showers at the same time. The power would go out. It wasn’t a huge deal. We would keep the ACs off while we showered, and Ben said he is getting this fixed. Outside, we enjoyed the Hammock’s, especially in the morning. And one morning, we were woken up by some howler monkeys! It is a 10 minute walk to the beautiful beach. And Ben gave us recommendations for restaurants and he gave us boogie boards for the beach. I do recommend if you are going to get a car, that you get an SUV. Majority of the roads in town are dirt so an SUV is easier for travel. Also, to get into Ben’s property there is quite a steep short dirt driveway where an SUV would help. The property itself felt very safe as there is a huge sliding gate with a lock to enter the property and we’ll as additional locks on the doors to the house.

Wonderful surf destination :-)

We chose to stay with Ben because he offered great rates and had an excellent location in Avellanas. The accomodations are great and there is even 3 TVs with Netflix for those few days that Avellanas does not have a swell (very few and far between). Ben is a gracious and accomodating host who went to all lengths to ensure our stay was comfortable and most importantly enjoyable. His surf lessons were exceptional, my boyfriend literally went from limited experience in the ocean to catching his first waves in only two sessions with Ben. He is as good with intermediates as beginners and helped me to get past a plateau I've been stuck on for over a year! He also has an extensive selection of boards for those who are not in need of instruction, and has the best rates we found anywhere around. The beach access is close enough and the mangrove boardwalk is a wonderful experience. I can't say enough about our stay, everything just fell into place perfectly, and it was an experience we won't ever forget. If you get the chance I highly recommend this house, and Ben, it's most gracious host/owner!

amazing beach house

This house was exactly what we pictured. A beautiful house by the beach with A.C. and a place to lay our heads at night. Walking distance to the beach with plenty of awesome restaurants near by. You don't need a car but we found that renting one with 4 wheel drive left us more options to see things we may have missed without one. Ben will accommodate you in any way possible to make sure your stay is perfection. I stayed with my brother who took up the awesome chance to get surf lessons with Ben. He is a great teacher and they both walked away from the water with smiles on their faces. There is a huge Mango tree right outside the door that we picked from. The bathrooms are so cool! Lounge outside in the hammocks with a beer and listen to the howler monkeys. If your looking for a cool spot by the ocean and like to kick it low key this is the spot. Don't expect to be pampered wined and dined. Staying here makes you feel like you live like the locals. Do it. It's awesome. We love Ben and his house!! We want to come back!!
