Summers House is a rustic contemporary country home and architectural gem - complimented by a stunning pool and spa incorporating the properties native stone in walls, steps and pool surround. The pool, like the house, is one-of-a-kind and designed to delight guests. (See pool and spa heating notes below.) Warm, welcoming, filled with art, antiques, and books, the house garners rave reviews from groups who enjoy its embrace. As one notable author who who enjoyed the house stated, 'Now I have been spoiled; every other place we stayed in after yours seemed well, soulless. That might be so for all our future vacation homes.'
Designed by award winning architect Robert Zinkhan, Summers House has welcomed guests and hosted wonderful gatherings since constructed by the Summers family in the late 1970's.
'The house as art' is Robert Zinkhan's goal. In designing Summers house he achieved his goal and created a home beautifully integrated into the natural landscape.
DESIGN AND DECOR
Summers House features Mexican paver tile floors, a beautifully tiled, handcrafted, fully equipped kitchen, and a large fireplace constructed from cobblestone left behind when Chinese laborers removed native stones to pave the streets of San Francisco during the 19th century. Historic tumbling rock walls built by the Chinese have been re-stacked to enhance the landscape, while maintaining the property's historical integrity. Native American arrowheads found on the property have provided additional reminders of the past.
Comfortable and practical leather furnishings complement antiques, art, and the house’s natural cedar walls and exposed beams. A large 18th Century European dining table graces the open dining area. A quarter sawn oak upright piano, a Summers Family heirloom, has recently been restored and tuned.
Three bedrooms, all with lofts, and two bathrooms welcome groups of six (up to seven with approval.) The master bedroom boasts a comfortable king sized bed, and ensuite bath with a large walk-in shower. The two queen bedrooms share a bathroom accessible from both bedrooms. Each bedroom has it own sink/vanity to provide privacy.
An enormous deck spans the south side of the house and captures views of Mt. Tamalpias, the San Francisco Bay, and Haywood Vineyards through which you drive to reach the house. Views can be enjoyed from the living areas as well, and sunsets are breathtaking.

WE ARE HAPPY TO HELP
Summers House is available for weekend, mid-week, and week-long visits every month of the year, with the exception of Christmas. Call owner Pat Summers for recommendations including restaurants, wineries, private chefs, spas, assistance with transportation and tours. She will provide recommendations upon booking.
IMPORTANT POOL AND SPA INFORMATION
The pool and spa are heated by propane, which is a significant added expense to the property's operations. VRBO does not provide a way to add the daily expense and we do not wish to raise rates to cover the expense as all guests will not opt to heat the pool/and or spa. Each group will be asked to pay an additional fee if heating is desired: ($150 per day for both pool and spa, or $50 per day for use of just the spa). During cooler months, November through April, there will be a fee to preheat the pool based upon weather temperature and propane usage. There may be a start up fee in Oct and May, depending upon weather. There will be no start up fee from June through September. During warmer weather pool heating may not be desired or required. Please note that the house was enjoyed by appreciative guests for ten years without a pool and spa. If you do not wish to use the pool and/or spa, it adds additional ambiance to the property, which is yours to enjoy at no additional cost.
IMPORTANT RENTAL AGREEMENT AND CANCELLATION INFORMATION
Please note that all guests will be required to sign a rental agreement with the owners. Reserving through VRBO is not the final step. The owners wish to make certain that all guests are aware of the area's rules and regulations, that the owner resides on and manages the property - with great respect for the privacy and comfort of guests - and that guests sign a release of liability for any incidents that may take place on the property including injury of any type, encounters with native animals or pets, or pool/spa accidents.
Please note that the owner requires that guests obtain travel insurance if they wish to be reimbursed for cancellations that take place after the cancellation period goes into affect. Travel insurance is quite reasonable to purchase. It must be purchased before the beginning of an incident such as a rain storm or fire, so it is best to purchase when making reservations. Forbes recommends Allianz Global Assistance, Amex Assurance, Generali Global Assistance, Seven Corners, Travelex, and Travel Guard. The owner cannot offer reimbursement for cancellations due to natural disasters, human induced incidents or disasters, health and illness issues, deaths in the family, etc., once inside the cancellation period.
