Shiprock
Shiprock
The Navajo call this Tsé Bit a í, Rock with wings. Shiprock as we know it. This incredible rock formation or monadnock rises 1583 feet above the desert floor in an area of the Navajo Nation of New Mexico. It is the remnants of a volcanic throat from an estimated 27 million years ago. Wall like arms radiate out from throat that were once lava flows. Erosion over the 27 million years has exposed this rock formation. #newmexico #shiprock #nightsky #milkyway #stars #billionsandbillionsofstars #getoutside #goexplore #quiet #awesome #natureporn #nightsky
Always glad to be driving home and see Shiprock on the horizon. Then I know I’m almost home. So much history here in the Four Corners area. Mesa Verde,Crow Canyon and the Canyon of the Ancients. Then there is Chimney Rock and Chaco Canyon not to mention Canyon Du Chelly. Lucky to live here. The mountains are awesome too.
Navajo nation is all over the desert Midwest, but seldom see it from anything but a drive by glance. Spending a few weeks with families of the Navajo nation gave me a new and profound perspective of their culture. Living in a desert is by far not what I would ever want, but after listening and living with the Navajo for a few weeks I've come to understand and have respect for the Navajo, their culture, hospitality, and respect for others and their nation.
