Play golf at la Rochelle, Saintes and Cognac, or visit the large Aqualand in St Jean dAngely. You can spend a day on the beach at Fouras and there is a ferry to the island of Aix, Napoleon's last residence. La Rochelle is famous for its old harbour, its aquarium and its many cafés and fish restaurants by the water.
