Not the Wyndham you expect

Pros: Staff super friendly and helpful. Beach onsite nice and convenient.
Cons: Open up free wi-fi during emergencies. No cheap way to contact Travelocity or Jet Blue prior to Hurricane Maria.
Location: Blue Lagoon excursion fun. Nothing nearby within walking distance. Went to neighborhood church on Sunday. Knowing Spanish critical if you go into town
This is not the USA version of Wyndham we expected. It was a timeshare resort that Wyndham bought 10 years ago. The resort is 30 or so years old. Maintenance was minimal. We arrived late and missed one day of our stay. The staff was phenomenal, but limited in what they could do to accommodate problems. One of the four rooms booked required a room change four times in six days due to being locked out of room, water leaking into room from shower (thankfully not the toilet), upgrade to oceanview room that was used for one day before moving inland for Hurricane Maria, then home. Ants were prevalent from vegetation nearby. Small blue crabs were cute and loved the same vegetation. Another room leaked shower water and moved into another room. Pictures on the website may have been in a newer building for owners. The majority were old, comfortable, and seemingly clean rooms nothing like the pictures. The beach was severely eroded by Hurricane Irma passing by - José and Maria, too. Still an enjoyable vacation largely in part due to staff, not surroundings. Unlock your phones for international reception and if you have a hotspot, great. 2G wi-fi free only in the lobby and for sale daily or weekly elsewhere in the resort. No computers available to check into flights or pre-purchase bag fees. Extra $5 per bag for Dominican Republic taxes if you don't do it online prior to leaving. We took $100 each in one-dollar bills for tips to staff which was greatly appreciated by all. Spanish helpful.

Nice if inclusive participation is your game

Pros: Justin James live music. Only 1 night out of 7 sadly.
Cons: VIP Club pestering sucks!!!
Location: Don't ask Guest Services. If it's not one of their tours they know nothing
We tend to be more independent and not participatory. If you like group activities and hanging on property then this place is OK. If you like, Zumba, Aqua aerobics and loud poolside speakers playing Caribbean disco then this place is for you. If you want your own place with peace and quiet then it is not. Food was OK. Tip the bartenders a little for better glasses rather than the 8.5 oz. little plastic cups. I didn't like the constant pestering to attend the VIP Club (timeshare-like) presentation. We didn't attend! Typical beach vendors just outside the property but that's to be expected.

Ideally situated for kiteboarding

Pros: The proximity of the beach and the food
Cons: Wireless access
Location: A bit outside of the village. But right on the kiteboarding spot
Viva Tangerine is ideally situated for whom want to dedicate his vacation to kiteboarding as is right on the spot, the best location on the beach that is always windy that also makes the place cooler in summer. The food is excellent and healthy. My only reservation is that the wireless is not included and is quite expensive.

This was ok, I've been to better!

The picture of the room that on the website must be only on one side of the resort because that not the type of room I stay in. The food is ok & I had one issue getting the staff to replace a broken iron it took hours, but it was finally brought to me by the manager, his customers service was on point from start to end.

Was just going for a 2 day jaunt to the north coast.  Went here because relatives were going.  Food was awful, facilities were run down, nothing to do (especially with kids, but even without), service/staff was nearly non-existent.  There are so many better choices, and a lot are much cheaper.  Checkin/Checkout were also painful; front desk staff was especially rude at checkout.

Don't stay here!

We were only here for 3 nights and had to visit the front desk SEVERAL times due to no hot water, not enough towels & bed linens that looked as though someone had rolled in them. You stay here & then they convince you to "see" another resort (which is 5 star) to try to sell you time share type pkg. Trust me, when you see the other resort you REALLY don't want to go back to this place. It has no ambiance, no atmosphere, the food is mediocre. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone who travels frequently & is accustomed to at least getting clean towels in their room (more than 1 set). I was very disappointed & when I complained they didn't even try to make it up to me in any way, shape or form!

Any requests were fulfilled immediately.

After four tries, we were finally given accommodations that met our criteria. Bathrooms could use an upgrade-only one towel bar and one hook were available for towels, bathing suits, etc. could also use cabinet space for toiletries. Rooms were cleaned daily and any requests from housekeeping/maintenance were expeditiously considered. Would return to this hotel again, but not during their rainy season as we lost three days because of rain and clouds.

My stay was boring. No entertainments. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were poor.

Cons: Poor breakfast, boring
I will not recommend this resort to anyone. No entertainments. The buffet for all meals. The drinks were chip. The phone in my room was not working. I have been to other resorts in puerto plata. This resort was the worst. I had a boring week. I was happy to return home.

Nice but would go some place else next time.

Pros: Quiet
This Hotel was very nice....but I would travel to another place next time. I enjoy water activities and the water was too rough for anything. Unless you were an avid windsurfer...it was not good conditions to learn in. Too windy and too many waves. The water was very warm and clean as were the beaches. The drinks at the bar were so watered down...like there was no alcohol in them at all...so if you were looking for a nice cocktail...it was like drinking juice all day. The pizza was excellent and we did enjoy the sit down dinners... the buffet was okay...I guess if you are looking for a basic vacation just to relax...this would be okay...but for an all inclusive I would spend my time and money elsewhere.
