The staff was lovely, however we noticed the room was dusty, below the bed did not get cleaned, corners were full of dust. It was obvious because they had so much painted in dark grey and black where the white dust was noticable. Also, the toilet did not flush correctly so we felt like the room smelled like pee from time to time.

Quirky but so convenient. Walkable to all of downtown Providence and College Hill and surrounded by great restaurants and shopping. The staff is incredibly friendly - especially the morning barista. I would definitely stay there again.

Classic hotel, great service but bizarre tiny room

The Neptune (formerly Dean) Hotel is a classic old hotel in the heart of downtown Providence. The staff and service were great. Our room ws not only tiny, but there was more space available in the room to set up a chair (or couch) to watch someone in the shower through the window to the room than there was space to walk around the bed. Despite good service, this lack of space to move near the bed, due to a really strange room configuration of room 408 made our stay just OK.

A hit and a miss

We loved the design of the hotel & the location. But the staff, even though very nice individually, seemed disorganized—it was like no one ever talked or shared information with each other. The hotel was rebranding from The Dean Hotel to The Neptune, so possibly that is why? There are numerous examples from our stay, but I will just share the last two things that happened. The stay was prepaid, months before our visit. When we checked out, the person at the front desk said, you guys prepaid, everything’s good. I look at my credit card online later to find that The Dean/Neptune charged us again for the entire visit—except the new amount is less than what we prepaid. I spoke to the manager, and he reversed the 2nd charge right away, but had no real explanation about why we’d been double-billed. When we left, we left 2 postcards (stamped & addressed) for the hotel staff to mail. Instead of just mailing them, they put both postcards in an envelope, and mailed them to the 1st postcard recipient…2 months after our stay! I even don’t know what to think about that. Are there people who don’t know what postcards are?

Creepy and claustrophobic.

Perhaps I overestimated what my experience would be like, but the hotel was very dated, with narrow hallways and dirty, worn carpets. The “lifts” looked claustrophobic and unsafe, so I opted to use the stairs instead. The room was fine. Small but clean with a nice bathroom. I had trouble sleeping because it was VERY noisy, with weird flushing sounds, creaky floors, and other sounds I can’t quite describe. The hotel also didn’t offer any amenities, not even coffee during my stay. I left as soon as I woke up, and I definitely won’t be back.

The property has been rebranded, it’s not the Neptune anymore but the Dean. They do not honor any of the perks such as the free drink nor room upgrades. The room itself is not clean, dirty floors, and very humid- giving it a heavy smell. Would not recommend.

Okay, not great

The location is great but I won’t return. As much as I wanted to love this place, it was mostly uncomfortable. We got a king room with a seating area. The bed was not at all comfortable and the pillows were flat and unhelpful. The king bed was edged into a portion of the room that barely fit so one side had a tiny table next to it and the other side didn’t have enough room to walk next to the bed, let alone a side table. What I didn’t understand is why they wouldn’t add a few little shelves on the wall instead, so there was a place to put your phone etc. the lift was old and charming but hard to navigate with bags and a dog. There was one person who gave such excellent service, the blonde woman who worked at night. The other people who worked there were fine except for the younger woman who’s service was below the level I expected (seemed kind of bored, didn’t explain the parking options very well, etc). The BAR is a little oasis of loveliness. Absolutely superb, secret, beautiful.

First, parking situation is terrible. The receptionist told us we can park in the multi-level garage next door for $25 a day. We went over to check and nobody is there. I called the parking attendant and they said there was no such deal. Ended up parking at another garage which clearly spelled out the cost Second, they did not offer us the 2 VIP free drinks. They only gave them after we asked. But the bar is closed and the coffee bar is closed too so we don’t get to use those Third: no refrigerator in the room. No safe Fourth: the bed is super soft
