Desperate for a refurb

The hotel and the pub are very tired and in desperate need of rlc and upgrade/refurb. Stains on everything from floors to ceiling. Chairs in the room and the bar that should be in the bin. The cleaners do a great job but the whole place needs dealing with. Green King you are better than this.

Quick check in with friendly member of staff, Laura. The room was very clean and had everything we wanted.As other reviews mention the bathrooms are old and could do with a makeover but not a problem for a short stay.

There was no soap in the bathroom. Staff were really nice, but the hotel seemed to be understaffed at the time. Ordered breakfast and after half an hour had to ask for it as they were quite busy with lots of guests at the time.

Room ok, but peeling paper above window and broken window catches and broken lamp shade by bed (window side). Bathroom needed a plug for the sink, mould on ceiling above the bath/shower and mastic should have been removed from the tiles (near sink and over bath) where soap dispensers had been removed. No brandy at the bar. Chips supplied with meal were luke warm (nobody came to ask if things were OK). Had to ask for full breakfast to be reheated. Stayed here before, so rather disappointed this time. Will stay here again - as this may have been a one off.

This hotel was satisfactory for the price. The decor and fittings, both in the room and in the public areas were tired, but serviceable. The breakfast options were good, but supplies often ran out and the one person who was trying her best to manage it was over-stretched. The location was good and straightforward to find.

The hotel was very grubby. There was an underlying smell of vomit especially when walking past the toilets. Bar staff were unfriendly and made it very clear they were closing the bar at 11pm and we had to take our drinks outside or to the room,we only checked in at 10.30pm. Towel rail not working and taped up with gaffer tape. Toilet seat broken,room generally grubby scuffed walls,stained tops,carpet stained really not very nice needs decoration and deep clean.Lots of tables and chairs stuffed into cupboards with glass doors generally run down and demotivated staff,customer service skills not very good although the young man who checked us in was polite and could be an asset with more training. Bar manager customer service skills were very poor just not interested in the job . Didn’t want to have breakfast as the place was not very clean

Needs a lot of TLC

Plenty of free and accessible parking which was great. Getting an Uber from here to the seaside, city centre etc. was easy and reasonable cost. Food was good as it’s the Greene King/Hungry Horse chain and they catered for my Gluten allergy. The staff were all pleasant, friendly and helpful. It’s just the hotel and rooms overall are so run-down and dated with lots of patch-up work everywhere; everything creaks and is stained and worn, wonky and has that musty smell. The windows still have gaps in them when closed and the portable heaters provided just give off that burnt dust smell when on. We had our room swapped when spoke to reception about our original room as the bath was coming away from the wall, which was appreciated as the new room was better, but still very much the same as the other room - dated basic and patchy. I don’t think it’s worth a complaint, as we overall had a good sleep on a comfy clean bed with no noise disruptions and were able to wash and get fed with lovely service from the staff, it just needs some serious TLC everywhere.

Very friendly staff always there to help at what ever time the place was very clean nothing to much trouble. It did need up dating but the surroundings was very quiet and safe

When arrived at the hotel, the receptionist was very helpful and check in was spot on. The room was very nice and spacious ( a suiteroom). Nice and quite. Breakfast was ok, but there was not enough pastries( only a few mini muffins and one other thing) ask the wait staff and told they have ran out. Next morning was the same no pastries/ run out as it advertise breakfast with continental. Order two full breakfasts and one come so had to wait for other to arrived. Also had to ask for more bread. Overall the hotel was great only let down was the breakfast, staff should be more aware of product/ food running low and instead of guest telling them.

Positive = Reception staff polite and helpful. Bed comfortable. Negative = Hotel is tired and in need of an upgrade. More attention to cleaning as we had a dead fly in a cup and our teaspoons had cleaning residue still on them, also dust on the table legs and walls with dirt splatters.Which I cleaned off. Others in our group had similar issues. The breakfast room was not ideal and inviting for a larger group of 6. Food is overcooked and warm at best. Asked to have another egg done runny, and although the young girl went and asked the chef, was told that they were unable to do so as they were busy with also running the pub restaurant next door. Checked next door to find only a couple of people seated, so not busy. The continental wasn't kept topped up, told more would come out in a few minutes,non ever did. Did get bread for the toaster, though. Juices and hot water are not topped up. We were seated midway through breakfast service, and as guests, we shouldn't have to keep asking for these things. There is a definite lack of leadership and mentoring with much attention needed towards attitude within the kitchen. Overall, our experience was negative, and we will not return.
