Enjoy the comfort and seclusion of our cozy cabin, while still being just miles away from the action! Slate Cabin is just 13 miles from Penn State University and is the perfect destination for a little bit of tranquility, and a little bit of PSU football!
The cabin sits on one acre of land with a parking lot on one side of the stream and the house/driveway on the other.
Not only are we located close to PSU, but we are .7 miles from Whipple Dam State Park! From hiking, to swimming, to fishing, to hunting, to picnicking, we really are the prime destination for a weekend away!
Our space is warm and welcoming, boasting a wood burning stove in the cozy living room, heated floors in both the bathroom and kitchen, and a lovely dining area that can easily accommodate 6 people!
The Kitchen comes with modern amenities including fridge/freezer, stove, oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, Keurig coffee maker, and large sink. The kitchen is stocked with basic dishes, including silverware, cups, plates and bowls, and pots and pans. Complimentary coffee, teas, dish soap, and fire basics also included.
The main living area has a couch that seats 6, and a 50" flat screen TV above the wood burning stove mantel. Throw blankets and pillows are also provided for cozy nights in front of the fire! The property does have Wi-Fi.
The first floor bedroom is equipped with 1 California King Bed.
There are two bedrooms upstairs, one having 1 Queen Bed, and the other having 2 Twin Beds.
The bathroom is on the first floor and has a toilet, sink, large shower, heated floors, and plenty of towels to go around. Complimentary soap ad shampoo are provided.
There is a washer and dryer on the first floor, and a conservative amount of laundry detergent is provided.
The exterior of the cabin includes a large driveway that can accommodate 6 decent sized vehicles. A quaint bridge will lead you over Slate Cabin Run and right up to the cabin's front door!
Our large screened-in porch and outdoor grill are great for cookouts with family and friends!
Bikes, Kayaks, Fly Fishing Rods, Canoe all available for an additional fee.
**NOTE: Quick reminder that the cabin is in the woods and is over 120 years old! Because of this, it does have the scent of 120 year old hand hewn beams. Many people enjoy the scent but if you are sensitive to smells or have allergies, please do not book this property. There is absolutely no mold, etc. but the beams do give off that "old cabin" aroma.
Also, this is the time of the year that outside critters start trying to find places to sleep! Because of this we do have rodent poison around the cabin and under appliances/furniture. While we have not had any issues, there is always the chance that a mouse/snake, etc. sneaks in through an open door, etc. Please make sure doors remain shut to avoid this. Please also avoid any children or pets going under furniture or appliances.
We will have bottles of wasp spray on the front porch for summer months although we haven't seen many bees/wasps for some time.
If you use the Central Air, please close all the windows. You may use the air conditioner or the small window upstairs but please do not try to open the bedroom windows in the upstairs bedrooms.
If you have any issues, questions, etc. please make sure to message in the app. Most of our staff is away this coming week. If you call/text it may take much longer for our staff to respond. However, we will respond quickest in the app.
Lastly, before each stay, we check that everything is in working order and there are no rips, tears, spills, stains, etc on anything. Should something happen during your stay that damages something, we'd rather you notify us right away rather than having to charge for damages that we were not told about.
We will not tolerate complaints about any of the above if you decide to book this property. It is an old, charming property that deserves renters who will enjoy their time!
We appreciate you taking care of our little cabin and please enjoy your stay!
