Grand Hotel Et Des Palmes

Via Roma 398, Palermo - Map
"Nice old central hotel"
Nice buffet breakfast, nice room -- old, grand hotel that has seen a bit of wear and tear but is still lovely and atmospheric. And the immortal Richard Wagner completed his last masterpiece (Parsifal) here, so if it's good enough for the maestro it's good enough for us! Good central location, very helpful and friendly staff (who sorted out our booking problem quickly and courteously).

Eurostars Centrale Palace

Via Vittorio Emanuele, 327, Palermo - Map
"At the heart of the "Centro Storico""
The hotel is in an old palazzo at the heart of the historic center of Palermo, close to the cathedral and the royal palace. On the rooftop it hosts a "Slow Food" restaurant with an excellent selection of wines. The concierges are courteous and helpful. BUT not all rooms have free wifi, breakfast is not included in the price of the room, one of the window panes didn't lock and the curtains were stained, and there were humidity stains on a lamp, and on the valance. The AC was extremely noisy and the elevator shakes when it gets to the 3rd floor. Definitely "pittoresco", but a part from the location I wouldn't rate it 4 stars.

"Stay in a Palace in the "hood.""
All of the reviews I read about the hotel are pretty true. It has lovely modern rooms with elegant "classic" touches like exposed beams and brick walls. We booked two single rooms at the lowest price. On was wonderful, the second proved more difficult since it had a stairway to a loft with the bed. The ceiling above the head of the bed was barely four feet high so I had to put the pillows at the bottom of the bed to prevent hitting my head if I got up suddenly. Otherwise beautiful rooms. Depending who was on duty, the front desk was somewhat indifferent or very helpful. The breakfast buffet was lovely and on our arrival we had an excellent lunch in the enclosed garden of the hotel's restaurant. Mostly fish oriented but we had two excellent pasta courses with vegetables only. The neighborhood certainly feels sketchy, but since the market is next door and the magnificent Gesu chiesa next door, it proved to be a wonderfully located hotel. So many charming things to see, such beautiful Baroque and exotic architecture--if only the government could find more funds to restore many more of the exquisite buldings that lay in ruins. We drove to Palermo from Messina. No easy task, but thanks to a delightful man outside the hotel we were able to find a spot in front of the hotel free of charge for two days. Driving is insane in Palermo, though not quite as bad as Naples. While I enjoyed my visit to Palermo I must say that Naples has more artistic treasures.

    Palermo Hotel & Travel Guide

Palermo is distinct from any other Italian city. A cultural melting pot, its exuberant unpredictability makes Palermo one of Italy's most interesting places to explore. The traditional Italian essence of Sicily's capital is spiced with African elements and Arabian flare. Hotels in Palermo have just as much character as the city itself, so start browsing Palermo vacation packages and Palermo hotels if you're ready to experience the one-of-a-kind energy of this bustling seaside city.

    Out and About in Palermo

The city is often likened to one giant bazaar bridging the gap between Europe and Africa. Simply strolling its rustic streets will yield tucked-away treasures, but heading from Piazza Indipendenza down Via Vittorio Emanuele toward the water will take you by the city's best historical sites, including the Norman Palace, Villa Bonnano, and a fantastic cathedral. Make sure to turn on Via Maqueda to see the controversial Pretoria Fountain and the Church of San Cataldo. Shop on Via Roma, home to Palermo's best boutiques, and in the centuries-old La Vucciria street market. Visit the Regional Archaeological Museum and delve deep into the island's past. Snorkel, surf, and sample seafood at Mondello Beach—a local favorite—and people-watch or participate in the electric nightlife around Piazza Olivella.

    Food and Drink

Italian gastronomy is celebrated around the world, but Sicilian cuisine is a beast of its own. Food in Palermo is as multicultural as the city itself. Taste neighboring French, Greek, Spanish, and Arab influences in main dishes, but be sure to save some room for treats. Sicilian candy is known for its incredible integration and preservation of Arab techniques, making it unique among European sweets.

Can you already feel the pull of one of Europe's warmest and most eclectic cities? Don't let the vibrant Palermo hotels and Mediterranean climate wait any longer. Search Travelocity for cheap hotels in Palermo and flights to Palermo, and save up to $537 when you book a hotel and flight at the same time.
