There is a very active train track a few hundred yards from the house. Screeching whistles at intervals throughout the night and day. This should’ve been disclosed in the listing. Poor sleep affected our enjoyment of exploring the area and the safety of our long drive home. Very disappointed and feeling taken advantage of. Although the house was pleasant, no one rents a vacation house expecting to be jolted awake hour after hour. We are returning home more exhausted than when we left.The other thing that made it feel less than hospitable are signs throughout the house— in the kitchen, coffee table, by your bed, near the dining room, on the wall, in a binder, on the door— about the behavior standards for the house. Food is off limits in certain places, don’t scratch the stove, take off your shoes, don’t prop the door open, sleep between the sheets not on top of the bed, etc., etc. or you might get a fee. Of course every house has rules. But this was completely over the top, especially given the disregard of something so basic for guests as being honest about trains (in case a guest seeking rest and a decent night’s sleep might choose elsewhere).
