We wanted somewhere special to celebrate our 50th Anniversary with three generations of our family (7 adults and 4 children). Gite des Orfeuilles met and exceeded our expectations. The setting is remote but incredibly tranquil, secluded and beautiful. It is a bit of a trek to the nearest supermarkets but we somehow turned this into an 'event'. Daily bread deliveries are reliable and early - and we discovered that the boulangerie also makes fantastic croissant, pain au chocolate and other goodies. .
The gite complex offered everything we needed to be self-contained and fully occupied. We were incredibly lucky with the weather, so the pool was in constant use, but there were plenty of other diversions on offer for our grandchildren (such as boule, tennis, fishing, table tennis and space for the many games we brought with us) - and the separation from neighbours meant we never worried about the noise the kids made. The situation is also perfect for outings to sightsee, canoe and soak up the Loire/Cher region.
Stephanie and David are charming, attentive and effective hosts. The arrival chat was friendly, informative and helpful, as were the information book and tourist leaflets in the house. Later in the week minor problems were quickly and effectively resolved without fuss. Checking out was straightforward - and it felt a little like saying goodbye to newly made friends.
If this is the sort of break you are looking for, I can't recommend it highly enough; we loved it..
