We checked in on New Year’s Eve, we had a very bad smell in our room when turning the heat on, we also thought there would be a new year eve celebration which there wasn’t, when asking the front desk why they were not having anything for the new years or a celebration, I was told “I don’t know I just work here” I later found out they had a “noon year” thing earlier in the day, what about for the people checking in to celebrate new years ? Nothing? & why couldn’t the front desk just say that? Very rude. We went to this water park In hopes to have a very fun new years and was very disappointed when they did nothing. When we also first got there we went to look at the pool area since this was our first time, and was told we could not look without our wristbands, I told the lady we where just checking in and just wanted to see the pool, she told us, “no” staff seemed like they didn’t want to be there at all very rude and poor to the guests.

There were spots of some type of food on the wall and window sill. Our room was tiny for a family of 6 and our heat didn’t work but they did fix it. It also took 5 mins for the water in the shower and sinks to finally heat up. Kids were running around screaming at all hours of the night. All the actives were overpriced and it cost me $40 for 6 powerades. The waterpark was fun but half the slides and pools were closed due to lack of staff. It did seem pretty clean at first but after 3 days it did not look very clean anymore. We have been to much nicer water parks for the same price and we will not be going back.

None of the outlets worked in our room, couldn’t charge anything. The room smelled like dirty feet and cheese. The beds were so uncomfortable that I woke up more tired than the night before. Elevators were so slow and we waited a minimum of 10 minutes each time.

So this was my first time staying at Castaway Bay (my family ALWAYS stay at Great Wolf Lodge which I am comparing this to) and first thing they have a cafe that only sells breakfast from 7am to 11am then its closed for the entire day which we were not informed the day we checked in. The cafe in the waterpark was extremely slow taking an hour plus to prepare food. Granted I understand holidays and being staff challenged which they were so a lot of the water park attractions were closed due to not enough staff, which was unfortunate considering the waterpark had shortened holiday hours from 10 AM to 8 PM and my family like many others drove hours away to spend a holiday there. Now we did go to the arcade, we did have some issues with arcade cards not being issued however payment was received, to the rooms, the loudness of other guest, and lack of waterpark attractions it was a 2/10 and I will not be returning nor will I ever recommend them to someone I know. My family has visited Great Wolf Lodge twice this year alone and I last minute I decided to switch things up and try out a different waterpark.

The rooms were clean, the waterpark was cool, the activities offered were fun, the festive atmosphere for the holidays was wonderful. The very disappointing part was the fact that we booked 2 rooms and requested multiple times weeks and days in advance for them to be adjoining. While I appreciated and did not expect to be able to check in early at 2pm... i was told at check in the adjoining rooms were not possible and that a "request is not a guarantee" and we were put in 2 rooms that were 2 doors down from each other. This was a family trip for Christmas and we had several small children in our party.I called down to the front desk once we got to our rooms and asked again if we could please get adjoining rooms and was once again very quickly told no. At about 6pm (4 hours after we got there), we were coming out of our rooms to see a family checking in to the adjoining room to one of our 2 rooms. They were just arriving and had all of their bags and even asked us if we knew where that room number was. Im confused as to why we could not have checked into that adjoining room at 2pm and the family arriving at 6pm could have checked in to the one we had 2 doors down. Overall we had a good time but it was not fun to have to have 1 adult in each separate room because they could not be bothered by the request that very clearly could have been accommodated.

We had a wonderful time! Room was clean and all of the activities and things to do made it even better. Staff so friendly. All adults and kids had so much fun. Loved adjoining room as well. We will definitely be back. May make it a Christmas experience again.
