Very friendly. Nice spot in the village center. We stayed in the main building, not the motel-like annex.

classic new england hotel, centrally situated

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
Middlebury VT is a charming town, with a cafe and a great restaurant/pub, and little shops all within a short walk from the hotel. (The College, however, is NOT a short walk!). We were put in an annex building, but the room was very comfortable (and that much more convenient to the parking lot). Service and attention at the main desk were excellent. Breakfast dining room was overwhelmed our one morning with prospective College students and their families (like us!), but the breakfast was good and service was fine. All in all, a great stay.

quaint but stuffy and unfriendly

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, quaint & old fashioned, antique bathroom facilities, a lovely walk into town
Cons: Poor breakfast, unfriendly staff, no elevator but stairs, long walk from parking, antique bathroom facilities, hot stuffy lobby in summer, too expensive -for what exactly?
Middlebury is a lovely town, and my niece & I were excited upon arrival, only to have our good moods dashed by a very unfriendly check-in clerk. The parking was not easy to figure out and a long walk from the room, so if you have a lot to carry, be prepared. You still have stairs to climb once inside. The elevator was not working - at least when we were there, nor did the lobby appear to be air-conditioned, and it was in the 90s. The restaurant was closed, no food was available within the hotel, so we walked into town and found nothing but long waiting lines at the various restaurants. It was very late by the time we got a table and something to eat. The hotel is quaint and charming but not modernized, not even the bathroom facilities. I think we would have enjoyed this step back in time, however, if the staff had been more welcoming. It was too expensive for what it offered, which was a cramped room upstairs in a stuffy old hotel -and nothing else.

an ok place; a bit rundown, but better than most places in midd

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
Cons: Poor breakfast
The beds are too soft, the staff rather cranky. But it beats the bad roadside motels. Among the less expensive places in town, this is probably the best

Strongly Recommended

Lovely room - stayed in the Carter Suite - a nice corner room with four big windows, two queen beds, seperate bath and dressing areas and lovely furniture appointments. Very comfortable. Extremely pleasant and professional staff at the front desk, breakfast staff a little less so. Complimentary afternoon tea (2-5 pm) was a nice touch and offered lemonade, ice tea, hot tea, coffee, cookies and scones with appropiate condiments. some of the main area appointments are getting a bit tired in this nearly two century old hotel, but the charm and comfort of the place makes this a minor issue. Walking distance to all points of interest in downtown Middlebury.

great getaway

Great to stay in a quaint village within walking distance to lots of stores. Did not eat there, but looked like a nice dining area. I wish I could have had a manicure/pedicure onsite, or a massage. I was exhausted after skiing!
