Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Spa
"Macdonald's Cardrona is looking a bit tired. Pretty well maintained, though enough cut-backs to become noticeable. The staff are very good, but have no say in the fixtures. For example, the third floor is very poorly endowed with WiFi. We had to be moved to the 4th floor, where it was better. Apparently, it is a long-term problem, which you only find out if you are involved. In the bedroom, there were no bedside power sockets; one packet of biscuits for 2 people; inadequate ceiling lighting - only 1 ceiling led in the room, but there were 3 table lamps; sofas were tired; no hairdrier, until we asked for one; bring-your-own bottled water, although there were tumblers there; no bedside drawers; no body-wash for shower and bath (shampoo and conditioner, yes, and hand-wash for the pedestal sink, yes). In the restaurant, the 'hot' food for the buffet breakfast was a few degrees above tepid, which was every morning - not just once; the back-bacon for the buffet breakfast was folded over, meaning it wasn't cooked on the inside; and so on. All signs of cutting back from what Macdonalds used to be 10 or more years ago, and for which they gained a reputation. However, our stay was not spoiled. We would go again, with lower expectations."
