It was a home away from home.

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, clean friendly
Cons: Noisy
The Freeman Posada was indeed a "port in the storm," a home away from home. The view is spectacular, but there are other hotels on the ocean. What sets the Freeman apart is the sheer quality. It's like a first rate American hotel at half the price. It is worth every penny. Loved the balcony overlooking the ocean. The rooms are clean and beautiful; one barely wants to leave and go outside! If that weren't enough, the staff is so friendly. I made a fast friend in Eva, one of the maids, last year. And if THAT weren't enough, a brunch in the lobby comes with the room. This isn't rolls and granola; this is a lavish brunch with many inventive hot entrees, fruit, etc. -- the whole nine yards. And there is a patio for outdoor dining. I cannot say enough about this hotel!

Good hotel, clean, friendly staff

I am an American living and working in Mexico, and I stay stay at the Freeman at least once a month for work. It is a nice hotel, clean, right on a nice part of the ocean. Rooms are nice, especially the ocean view rooms with balcony. Breakfast is included with your stay here, and it is good- Mexican style breakfast. Small, but cute little pool area on the roof of the hotel, great sunset views from here. If you stay here, there is a ferry to Stone Island just a short taxi ride away. Stone Island is a wonderful place to spend the day, with some great little Mexican outdoor restaurants right on the beach, which is beautiful. However, Hotel Freeman is not in the Golden Zone, so if you are coming to Mazatlan for the first time or on a honeymoon or special vacation, I would suggest looking at the hotels up the beach in the Zone. They all have more of that tropical-resorty feel, with big pool areas and are on a great stretch of nice sandy beach, and are in the middle of all the restaurants and little market shops and stores and stuff. Definitely the more happening area. They are generally more expensive though than the Freeman and the other hotels on the North end. You could stay at the Freeman and take a taxi up to the Golden Zone, but its kind of a far walk. So it all depends on what you are looking for on your trip to Mazatlan. If you want to experience Mazatlan away from all the people and noise, stay at the Freeman, if not, look at the Golden Zone!

There were a few things that dissapointed: 1) The beds were incredibly uncomfortable and the pillows were even worse. 2) On our floor alone, 3 of the 5 rooms had guests that experienced food poisoning. I realize that it may have been the flu, but based on symptoms, I feel it was much more likely that the buffet was the culprit. 3) Our window overlooked a dirty, half constructed, surface that stored the air conditioning units. And beyond that, the portion of the view that did over look the ocean, was impeded by a lack of cleaning. It was so dust and grease covered, it was gross. Not at all what you want on a beach vacation. The area, was UNREAL. We loved the historical district and the roof top patio was nice. But do yourself a favor and just stay somewhere else near by, and visit the rooftop for a drink.
