This is an EXCELLENT place to stay and enjoy Matera. The rooms are big, very comfortable, modern, and convenient to walk around beautiful Matera. The bathroom is big and the toilet is in a separate room than the shower and the lavatory. The staff is very helpful and very cordial. They helped us with every request we had. But, I can’t emphasize more the location… it is in the middle of the Sassi and all locations that one needs to visit. It is located in a small mountain that overlooks part of the Sassi. And one thing very important, you don’t have to carry your luggage to far up, the lobby is 6 stairs from the main avenue that takes you everywhere. Highly recommended.!!!

Lovely hotel with extremely helpful staff. We loved staying in a cave room. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I didn’t want to ever get out of the enormous shower. When we arrived, really after restaurants were serving lunch, the reception staff called to make sure the restaurant next door could accommodate us. He then mapped out a walking tour for us for the afternoon and recommended several restaurants nearby for dinner. We loved everything about the place except that the platform for the bed was larger than the bed and if one (I.e. me) were not paying attention, it was easy to walk into the corner of the platform and give your leg a nice bruise.

A unique stay in a cave room right in the heart of Matera. No parking in old town but multi storey car park a 10 minute walk away (10 euros per day) - beware the slippery cobbles and steps when pulling luggage through the old town, not for the infirm! Interesting stay and very helpful host. Continental buffet breakfast included. Convenient for exploring the old town.

Front desk receptionist (Valentina) was excellent in checking us in and showing around the room, shared the map and explained where to see what attractions, suggested great dining options. Morning breakfast was great, room was excellent. Recommend all to stay and try the experience out.

Staying in a cave for a night was a really nice experience! The B&B was located in the centre of Matera with lots of things to see around and places to eat. The owner was very helpful and nice, he gave us a lot of recommendations!

Especially charming, especially special

This friendly, immaculately clean hotel was one of the best in which we’ve ever stayed. Gianvito is a wonderful, helpful host who helped us check in (it’s tricky to get to), and gave us a superb orientation that allowed us to maximize our (sadly short) time in Matera. The town itself is of course amazing, and Alle Malve is in a perfect location for exploring it.

Fantastic in every way

This is a fantastic B&B, right in the middle of the Sasso in Matera. The owner is extremely helpful, friendly and informative, and has made a fantastic job of converting this traditional property to a very high standard. Breakfast was very nice, with a selection fresh meat, cheese, croissants and home made jams. Our room, in a self-contained building next to the main house, was superb, with a balcony to sit out on to enjoy the amazing atmosphere of this wonderful town. The owner has plans to provide further rooms and a spa. If you intend coming to this amazing old town, stay here right in the middle of it and soak up the history. One of the best stays we have had.

wonderful cave dwellings

Matera is a very surprising place and for good reason it will be Cultural Capital of Europe in 2019. The B&B is in the heart of the old sassi area of cave dwellings and has kept its original appearance, but with all modern amenities. The owner is very enthusiastic and did his best to make sure we would see all worthwhile places. The breakfast was not on a par with the other services and should be improved.

Fabulous time in Matera

The room was well-appointed and comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding as the it included the proprietor's mother's home baking and preserves. They were helpful with advice regarding the Matera locality, restaurants and sights.
