Just got back from Sonesta and as a group with many teenagers and adult we loved the property, the beach and food options.

I called and emailed for connecting rooms (as we traveled with children); the manager refused to assist and acted as if he was doing us a favor by staying there. While checking in, there were multiple overheard complaints from other guests about the condition of their room, attitudes of staff, inability to have their family members on the same floor. There was not enough staff to handle the number of guest. 2 bartenders at the pool side bar for 420 full rooms. Some of the staff had attitudes, with some complaining that they are not paid well (or able to eat the food at the hotel), but expected to do the work of multiple people. My husband saw a roach in our room and 3 other rooms reported that they also saw roaches. The housekeeper did the bare minimum (not fully stocking towels or rags or cleaning the mirrors). The balcony slider was stuck and opened only slightly in our room. Another guest reported that their slider fell off and onto their son. Nothing was done to remedy by management... If you need adjoining rooms or travel with a group, you are rolling a dice by booking here. They are not keen on customer service AT ALL!!! Although I will not be returning to this hotel, I have to acknowledge the staff at the kids club. My children thoroughly enjoyed them and the activities (I'm not good with names, but I remember : Hailey and Bronx girl). There were some personable staff , like the pool towel lady, supervisors that sit the guests at the eateries and wait staff: Anthony

The staff was incredible— the most pleasant and helpful team I have ever met at a resort. From check-in, when we met Cedric, to the team members who were always so helpful and personable, the staff was fantastic! The rain shower was invigorating and so refreshing after a hot day of touring. The resort is in a great location, and we enjoyed watching the planes arrive and depart. The downside: the food was tasteless except at La Fontana. Some resort guests were loud and vulgar. Overlooking the pool, we could see and hear everything happening below. One afternoon, a guest was gyrating very vulgarly to the music played by the staff. The same music also had lyrics with indecent language unsuitable for kids sharing the pool at that time. Please consider playing poolside music a little later. We love St. Maarten! Beautiful island, very picturesque!

We just spent 5 days at sonesta maho beach for a family vacation. We had 2 rooms and here are our pros and cons: Pros: Food (nice variety and dining options). Walking distance from airport. Beach was pretty and great for spotting planes. Nice ocean breeze all day, every day. Cons: Staff is rude and unwelcoming (only a few friendly ones). Pool is small for hotel capacity. Rooms are not the cleanest, the shower in one of our rooms was not draining. AC barely worked. Most nights we were uncomfortably hot, in both rooms.

Overall the Sonesta was amazing. Friendly staff, clean and amazing views. The food was as great, a lot of options to choose from. The only recommendation I have is to get queen size beds in the double rooms. You literally could be the perfect resort with queen size beds lol And go see Carlos at the pool bar!! He is a magician!

Do not stay at this resort. I have been to 10+ all inclusive resorts around the world and have never been treated this poorly by staff from start to finish on a trip. The entire staff at Sonesta is unfriendly and rude, from the beach workers, to security, bar tenders and waiters all could not be bothered with the guests.

Food was just ok. Leaving the doors open to the buffet while 90-100° and humidity just made some of the meats look unsafe to eat. The burgers and dogs were way better from the pool grill versus the Palms restaurant. The Itailan and Chinese restaurants were pretty good. The beach, the water was really nice, like you would expect from the carribean. Overall we made the best of our trip. We ate on the town more than at the resort. I would place my experience in ths middle for the hotel. Some good, some just ok, some needed to be better. While our excursions on the boat to angullia and renting UTV for 24 hrs roaming the island to all the different beaches and towns were exceptional 4/5 out of 5, we place this trip a 3 out of 5 overall.

Ok. But not the best.

The room was spacious, but air conditioning not very cold. It would get hot in the middle of the night. We got room 773 facing the casino. You could hear the music from the street until 3am. Pool was always packed. At check in the reception, the service wasn’t pleasant. Very dry and not very communicative.
