I recently completed an eight-night stay at Montrave House, and it was exactly the peaceful retreat I needed. The house has a wonderful, deliberate pace to it that really allows you to decompress. I particularly loved the quiet atmosphere. The kitchen is well equipped if you are inclined to cook and the bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable with on demand heating if needed The location is perfect for exploring. It served as a fantastic base for driving the back roads to the East Neuk villages, yet provided a serene place to return to and rest. Airin was a wonderful host, and the house itself felt very centered and welcoming. If you are looking for a place to truly settle in and appreciate the beauty of the Scottish countryside without feeling rushed I highly recommend Montrave House. Plan on returning for my next Scotland trip.

The house is large and charming with very comfortable beds. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the hosts, who are nearby, are delightful. The location is beautiful and it is close to nearby towns with tourist attractions.

Fantastic place for the whole family to stay. Comfortable, clean, spacious - and defo recommend the hot tub for a couple of nights. Hope to be back again soon.

Away from the crowds but incredibly convenient

Wonderful property! Quiet, spacious and comfortable. Fifteen minute drive to St. Andrews and a hour to Edinburgh via nearby train station. Great spot to explore Fife and its incredible coastline. Hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating. Absolutely would stay here again!

Perfect family getaway (and plenty of space for the in-laws!)

We had an amazing week away at Montrave House. The kitchen was well-stocked (and we cook a lot!), we had everything we needed for an infant (travel cot, high hair and plastic dishes/cups), everything was clean and tidy, and communication with the hosts was a breeze. Highly, highly recommend!

4 bedroom house in delightful country estate

Montrave House provided the perfect stay for our family group of 6 adults and one 5 year old. The accommodation was super comfortable, with a well equipped kitchen. Airin was extremely helpful and communication before and during our stay was easy and informative. I would not hesitate to recommend this property.

Home from home

Lovely house with ample room for the 6 of us, plus our two furry friends. Hosts were onsite to welcome us and the pleasant offer of a pizza night whilst we were there was something we were keen to take up. Quiet location. Ample grounds for lovely walks.

Wonderful and personal

My family had an absolutely wonderful experience staying here! Airin and Nick went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and comfortable. From the moment we arrived, they were incredibly accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed and more. What stood out most was the personal touch they brought to every interaction; it felt like staying with a friend rather than just booking a place. They added thoughtful extras that truly made our stay extraordinary, from personal property tours to homemade bread. We can’t recommend this place enough and would love to return in the future!

Magnificent Property and Hosts

I can't stress enough how wonderful the host of this property were to us. The grounds are spectacular. The location is great if you want to take 1 -2 hour day trips. Everything in the house was clean and orderly. The hosts greeted us with homemade bread, jams, tea, coffee and a few other essentials. I HIGHLY recommend Montrave House run by Airin and Nick Gilmour. Awesome stay. We loved it.

Beautiful place

The house was perfect for me and my family. All the rooms were comfortable and there was plenty of room for all of us to have space. We loved walking around the property, so many beautiful views! We were there for Christmas and the house was decorated, which was a really nice surprise. The fireplace made everything extra cosy! Any issues we had were minor and very quickly resolved. Airin is a fantastic host and I would definitely want to stay here again.

Felt the advert promised more than delivered. No hot tub as stated on advert and no cost reduction. Its a lovely house but some old tired pieces need TLC tolift it.Setting is isolated which is good in one way but with poor WiFi not one I'll return too

Beautiful, clean, comfortable house, so well equipped, having everything we needed for our stay. Airin and Nick are such hospitable hosts, responsive to any of our queries and made us feel very welcome. Additional touches of fresh flowers, wine,coffee,eggs, fruit, milk etc was a very welcome touch on our arrival and very much appreciated after our journey! The expansive grounds are ideal for adults and children to explore with lots of paths to take to see around the estate. The house is ideally situated between Leven and Cupar making the surrounding areas easily accessible. We certainly enjoyed a wonderful week here and would thoroughly recommend this property to any future guests. Thank you Airin and Nick.

Great base for a family wedding

We booked this property at the last minute, as we needed a base for our daughter's wedding, in St. Andrews, and our previously-booked accommodation had cancelled. I'm so glad we did! In the run-up to our stay, communication from Airin was friendly and helpful. On the day of our arrival, she was there to greet us and let us know that she was available to answer any questions. The property is fabulous, with a huge kitchen (with all mod-cons), dining, seating area, with a separate room off it with a TV and DVD player (Which we didn't use). Also, a utility/boot room, with an additional fridge/freezer and a microwave oven. Upstairs are all the bedrooms; two with en-suite. The house contains many items of antique furniture and an amazing wood-carved fireplace. Plenty of parking space. We've no hesitation in recommending this property. Thanks for a lovely stay!

We wanted a relaxing family holiday and that’s exactly what we got , so very peaceful.

We enjoyed absolutely everything about our stay here. So Very relaxing and just what we needed after a busy year. We had lazy mornings then had some great walks around the grounds taking in the beautiful scenery. Airin (owner) is absolutely lovely, very accommodating and on hand to give help/ advice should you require it. On arrival we got a fab welcome pack and flowers- very nice touch, the house was very clean and has an ideal Living area with open plan kitchen/dining, excellent if you are cooking for a number of people. The underfloor heating makes the house very cosy every morning but should you get a little cold at night the large log burner soon heats it up. Bedrooms are super for 3 couples as we all had a bathroom each which was perfect. There is mention about homemade pizzas available but my family were disappointed that this is only provided during summer as they had been looking forward to trying them out. Portable Hot tub available , we hired this but slightly disappointed it takes a few hours to heat up and needs a lot of work to keep it going. We all absolutely loved the house and location , would definitely go back 😊

Perfect! The most amazing country home and setting just an hour outside of Edinburgh.

Our family of 6 stayed at Montrave house for 5 short nights. It was perfect for all of us. So peaceful and beautiful. It really felt like home. Our hosts, Nick and Airin were very easy to work with, were immediate with sorting out needs and questions. They left a generous and delicious homemade loaf of bread and 2 jars of homemade jam, wine, milk and 2 bouquets of flowers from their garden to greet us. Check in and out was breeze. It was clean and confortable. A dryer would have been nice for we spoiled Americans but the huge drying rack inside the large laundry room was great. Washing and fire pit (x1 use) were available at no cost. Extra wood is available for purchase. The grounds are massive and worth a walk around. They own the Wigwam property next door and invited us to visit. The sheep and horses ( next door) were fun to watch all day. We were sad to leave and hope to return. We highly recommend Montrave House in Leven, Scotland. There are ocean views very near by and the beach is close as well. My husband has driven on the wrong side of the road and was good at relearning. Thank you, Nick and Airin for a wonderful stay.

Well equipped kitchen

As cooks, we appreciated there were sharp knives and equipment to prepare a meal. The app for the property was a superb resource for any questions we had. Our bonus was being able to get pizzas too from their on-site wood fired pizza oven. Excellent location for Fife and close access to Edinburgh.

Wonderful house and grounds, perfect base in Fife

Our family of 5 stayed at Montrave House for a week while we moved our daughter in for her first year at St. Andrews. It was a perfect base, convenient to St Andrews and Edinburgh, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Airin and Nick are gracious hosts- warm, welcoming and knowledgable, communication was clear and there were thoughtful touches throughout every part of our stay. The historic building is full of character and thoughtfully updated, the extensive property with well maintained trails and the available woodfired hot tub were a wonderful bonus, and made the trip really special for our other two teens. We will definitely stay at Montrave again!

October half term '21

Superb mid week stay. The property is very well appointed, the location is great and the hosts/owners are very accommodating. Easy driving distance to restaurants, beach and golf. I would thoroughly recommend Montrave House.

Family Break

We all had a lovely time, super accommodation, very well appointed, wonderful grounds for the dogs and everyone else to explore, great fun in the rustic hot tub, very kind and welcoming hosts, close to lovely little East Neuk places to explore, thank you very much for letting us all enjoy your home for a few days.
