The Space:

➔ Upper Bedroom — Queen bed, access to the main living area and kitchen
➔ Upper Bathroom — Full bath attached to the upper bedroom
➔ Upper Living Area — Wood-burning stove (primary heat), kitchen, deck access
➔ Lower Bedroom — Queen bed with full bath adjacent
➔ Deck — Upper-level outdoor space with mountain views and stargazing

Heat: The wood-burning stove is the main heating source. No air conditioning is installed — at 10,152 ft elevation, nights stay in the 40s even in July.
Guests have the full cabin, both decks, and the surrounding property. Parking is available at the cabin. Door code, WiFi password, stove operation instructions, and wood supply information arrive by email before your stay.
Check-in instructions and a Leadville area guide (trailheads, ski conditions, restaurants, emergency contacts) are provided via email. We respond to messages quickly — most guests never need us, but we're one text away if you do.
The Neighborhood:
The Hwy 91 Log Cabin sits on US Highway 91, the main north-south route through the Leadville corridor, on the quieter side — residential and wooded, without in-town noise or foot traffic. The cabin is positioned between downtown Leadville (7–10 minutes south) and Ski Cooper (25 minutes north), closer to skiing than to town shops.
Leadville town (7–10 min south): Harrison Avenue is lined with Victorian-era storefronts, brewpubs, and local shops. Periodic Brewing, High Mountain Pies, Treeline Kitchen, the Delaware Hotel, and the historic Tabor Opera House serve as anchors. The town is famous for its mining heritage and elevation (10,152 ft, second-highest incorporated city in the US).
Skiing: Ski Cooper 25 minutes north on US-24. Copper Mountain 25–40 minutes east via I-70. Vail and Beaver Creek 45–55 minutes east via I-70.
Hiking and peaks: Mt. Elbert (14,440 ft, Colorado's highest peak) and Mt. Massive (14,428 ft) are 25–26 minutes south. Twin Lakes recreation area is 20–25 minutes south for fishing and boating. Turquoise Lake is 12–15 minutes away. Mineral Belt Trail (hiking/Nordic skiing) is 10–15 minutes.
The location trades town convenience for mountain quiet — you're far enough from Leadville to hear the wind and the stars, close enough that dinner downtown is a 10-minute drive.
Getting Around:
A vehicle is required. There is no regular public transit between Hwy 91 and the ski areas, and Leadville's attractions are car-dependent.
Driving: Hwy 91 sits just off US-24, the main north-south highway. Ski Cooper is 25 minutes north. Copper Mountain and Vail are east via I-70 (25–40 min and 45–55 min respectively). Downtown Leadville is 7–10 minutes south.
Parking: ample parking at the cabin. The driveway can accommodate 2–3 vehicles and is plowed in winter.
Airports: Denver International (DEN) is 2 hr 15 min via I-70 and US-24. Eagle County Airport (EGE, Vail area) is 50 min via I-70. Colorado Springs is ~2 hr 45 min.
Road conditions: US-24 through Leadville is maintained year-round. Winter weather is common October–April; 4WD or winter tires recommended.
Other Things to Note:
For stays longer than 15 days, a mid-stay cleaning is required and an additional fee of $150 will apply. This helps us maintain a high standard of cleanliness and ensures the home stays comfortable for the duration of your stay.
ALTITUDE: The cabin sits at 10,152 feet elevation. Plan your first 24 hours easy: drink double your usual water, ease up on alcohol, and avoid heavy exertion on arrival day. Altitude sickness symptoms include headache, nausea, and shortness of breath. We cannot offer refunds for altitude sickness — if you're prone, consider travel insurance.
WOOD STOVE: The wood-burning stove is the primary heat source. Full instructions arrive in your email. You'll use it every night from October–April and possibly in shoulder seasons. If you dislike wood heat or open flame, this cabin may not suit you.
NO A/C: No air conditioning is installed. Nights in the Leadville area stay in the 40s–50s even in July. Windows and cross-breezes handle daytime warmth. At this elevation, A/C is uncommon and unnecessary.
NO CELL SERVICE: Cell service is intermittent in this area of Hwy 91. WiFi is available in the cabin. If you rely on cell reception, plan accordingly. Emergency calls via WiFi are supported.
ISOLATION: The cabin is 7–10 minutes from town and 25 minutes from Ski Cooper. It's a quiet, rural location. If you expect walkable shops or restaurants, downtown Leadville is a short drive. If you expect door-to-door delivery or immediate services, this is not the cabin.
WEATHER: US-24 is maintained year-round, but winter weather is common October–April. 4WD or winter tires are recommended. Check mountain pass conditions before you drive.
PARKING: Ample parking. The driveway is plowed in winter, but you should plan for snow management.
NO PETS: Pet-free home. Bringing a pet will result in either removal or a $500 pet fee to cover additional cleaning.
WILDLIFE: The cabin is in a wooded area at elevation. Expect the occasional insect or small critter. Keep doors closed. We pest-treat regularly.
CHILDREN: Families are welcome. The cabin is not child-proofed — please supervise young children, particularly around the wood stove and deck.
LICENSE: Lake County license on file.
ARRIVAL EMAIL: Look for our arrival email with a link to the digital guidebook — check your spam folder. The guidebook has your door code, WiFi password, stove instructions, and local tips.

We we're impressed by the large comfy cabin. We thought there might be some road noise because it is near the main highway, but we never noticed at all.

Liked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Check-in, communication
Dumb ass management or owners.
First, they gave me the wrong address. That was in Leadville, and it is actually 9 miles outside of Leadville. I enter with the door code and there is someone already staying there. So, I call VRBO, and the woman was very helpful she found out I was given the wrong address. She gave me the right address and door code. Same exact code as the other property. That I could have been shot or attacked by the renter that was not there at the time. They showed up a few minutes later. They were a construction company doing gas pipeline installation in town. And they said they were there till Saturday. Thank God they were very nice. So, I had to drive back 9 miles to the right property. I think I should get 50% back of what I paid for the rental. What do you think VRBO? And who uses the same door code for two different properties?
