E komo mai, welcome to Makahuena 2102!

“The Makahuena” is located on the southernmost point of Kauai. This unique oceanfront resort is situated on the edge of a bluff providing spectacular coastal views. This spacious 3BR/2BA ocean view condo has over 1,300 sqft of living space accommodating up to 6 guests. The fully equipped kitchen and bathrooms have been updated with cherry wood cabinets and granite counter tops. For added comfort there is a washer/dryer in the unit, 3 TVs, and AC throughout the condo. Ten minutes walking distance to Poipu Beach.

This single level floor plan opens up to a lanai with a beautiful ocean view, steps away from the pool, hot tub, and shared grill area. There are some stairs leading down to the unit. The primary bedroom has a king size bed memory foam mattress and TV, the guest bedroom has a queen size bed, and the second guest bedroom has 2 twin beds (these cannot be combined). A full size sofa sleeper in the living room offers an additional sleeping place (a $50/night additional guest fee is applied for 7th & 8th guest).

Destination Kauai is a locally owned and family operated company. We offer contactless check-in for a seamless arrival. A 15% deposit is due at the time of booking. Refundable security deposit applies.

We recommend soaking in the sun and enjoying the beautiful outdoors that Kaua'i has to offer. But if you need to stay connected, free wireless internet is provided.
For your convenience, we provide some beach gear for your use: beach chairs, umbrella, small cooler, and beach towels. We also provide a starter supply of amenities and toiletries (soaps, toilet paper, paper towels, detergents).

Shipwreck beach (10 min walk), Brennecke's Beach (5 min. walk), go snorkeling with lifeguards on duty at Poipu Beach Park (5 min.) or take surf lessons at Sheraton Beach (15 min.). Walk to the Grand Hyatt Resort (10 min walk). Treat yourself to a massage at the Anara Spa or play golf at the nearby Poipu Bay Golf Club (one of Tiger Woods' favorites) - all of this within walking distance.

Everything was as stated. Place was clean and welcoming. Had all the starter amenities so we didn’t have to run out right away. It was a great location near beaches - you could walk to two within 15 minutes (you can see from the grounds). Restaurants nearby as well. Try a puka dog! Went to Friendly Waves for lunch. Both close by. Definitely would stay here again!!

Great location & space
We were in town for a conference at the Grand Hyatt but wanted more space for our family (2 parents, 2 kids & nanny). This was a perfect fit. It was an easy, beautiful walk to the Hyatt for the conference and close to Poipu beach (turtles!). We appreciated having 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms- plenty of room to spread out. All the beds were quite comfortable and we felt quite at home. The kitchen was well equipped for a VRBO & the unit had lots of extras (snorkel gear, sand castle gear, stroller, wagon, beach chairs..) We also liked the first floor lanai adjacent to the grass with plenty of room for the toddlers to run around while we relaxed and took in scenic views of the ocean and the whales in the distance.

Great place for our family vacation
This property was perfect for our needs. We had a 1 and 3 year old, their parents and two 60 somethings. There is a separate "wing" with two bedrooms that allowed the children to sleep in quiet while the rest of us enjoyed the evenings. The unit was in excellent condition and well stocked. I highly recommend this condo for groups with mixed ages.

Perfect home base for a family visiting Kauai!
This condo was the perfect home base for a family visiting Kauai! We loved it so much that we re-booked before leaving for next summer. For reference, we have 3 teen/tween boys and felt like there was plenty of space. The unit has a nice ocean view from the patio and the pool/hot tub are right outside the unit as well. Super convenient/great with kids. The condo had everything we needed. We did not cook much (pizzas, salads, etc.), but had plenty of knives, cutting boards, coffee mugs, etc. We stayed 7 nights and did not need to replenish anything, which we sometimes have to do at other VRBOs (i.e., toilet paper, paper towel, trash bags). I appreciated that! The beds were super comfy and the place was sparkly clean! There was plenty of space to hang out at night around the TV and watch a movie from the streaming service the condo provides! There were plenty of towels and beach equipment if you needed it. Bathrooms were spacious. Washer and dryer were full size - nice for a family. The condo in general was quiet....there is a unit above and so you might hear footsteps, but we were not fussed. AC and fans all over kept the place cool/quiet (no roosters like our last place w/o AC!). Perhaps most of all, I loved the location. We walked down to Poipu beach every day (Puka Dogs and Brennecke's Broiler are walkable eating spots!). Beach is awesome for snorkeling: stick your face in the water, fish everywhere, monk seals on beach, turtles on beach + water (go at sunset to see turtles come up to sand to hang). Also, we drove to Shipwreck beach every day which is only 1.5 or so miles down the road when the boys wanted to play in wilder/wavier water + there is a great trail there to walk and take pics. Overall, this was my fav place in Kauai so far. I think the location is perfect, communication with maintenance guy and owner were amazing (+ they were understanding when we went through a family emergency that caused an issue with the property). BOOK IT! LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Highly recommend booking.

Great experience!
The condo was clean and was plenty of space for our group of 6 (4 adults and 2 young children). We were pleasantly surprised at how well stocked it was with beach toys, kids books and games, and everything we needed in the kitchen. All the linens and towels felt new and fresh. And the ground floor unit opening onto the grass was perfect for us. The pool was warm and the unit is a short walk to multiple beaches. We also used the grills on the property multiple times which were clean and new and worked well. Overall a really great stay - would highly recommend!

A Wonderful 3 Weeks
This is a well equipped property with lots of little extras that helped us avoid costs we've incurred with stays at other properties. The location is exceptional for enjoying the ocean waves crashing on the rocks either from the lanai or by taking long walks on the trails along the Point. We had a bit of an issue with the AC during the first few days of our stay, but the property manager was very prompt to deal with the issue. No stay is perfect so having someone to deal with problems is very important and appreciated. We will probably be back sometime in the near future.
