Villa on the Beach

Pros: Treated very well by the staff, very well organized, helpful concierge!
Location: Long, clean beach on the ocean side, biking, kayaking, hiking, and several restaurants on plantation property. More shopping in town.
Initially, we booked a villa on the plantation that turned out to be far from the beach. Omni Hotel staff helped us upgrade to a condo/villa with direct beach access, for a bit more money per day - well worth the difference to be able to wake up and walk on the beach, and to see and hear the ocean from our balcony! We were able to use the amenities of the Omni Hotel, and their shuttle service allowed us to leave the car parked and get to activities and restaurants anywhere on the plantation.

I paid for a "villa" and I got an old hotel room

Pros: When you could get to the ocean, it was beautiful. Beautiful grounds and layout.
Cons: Don't try to rip people off and nickel and dime them to death. That is the most annoying thing EVER.
Location: Beautiful island setting with lots to see.
I booked the Amelia Island Plantation Resort on Travelocity with the promise of a resort view villa for a reasonable price including resort fee. I thought this was strange, and the hairs on the back of my neck raised, but I thought -- that's what Travelocity says, so....it must be true. I did not look at the total price as I was in a hurry to get this booked because my son and his wife had just had a baby. When I got there, I found out that my "villa" was an old hotel room on the 2nd floor of a condo complex with no elevator. Drag your 50-lb. bag with baby clothes in it up two flights of stairs. The "villa" had a small flat screen TV, dirty carpet and a small patio that hadn't been cleaned or cared for in awhile. A flyer in the room let you know that housekeeping was extra if you wanted it any sooner than every 3 days. No information on what kind of food was offered through room service, etc. I did not expect a beach front room for the rate, but I did expect more than what was given me. Also, at the end of the stay, I find out that the resort fee was not included in the price of the room, but the "overall" price. If I had known that, I would never have booked it. Beware!!! This place is a scam. I'm sure the people that actually want to pay the huge prices get a wonderful stay. Those of us attracted to a beach property for an affordable price just get disappointed. Today the price on Travelocity is higher. Good luck!

Nice villa very close to beach

My husband and I stayed at The Sandcastle Villas. The room decor was beautiful. Going to sleep and awakening to the sound of the ocean was awesome! We toured Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach. The hotel staff were very courtious and extremely helpful with recommending area sites and restaurants. Great stay! Great ocean view!

Don't miss this little piece of Paradise!

Probably THE best resort we've ever stayed at.  Incredibly manicured gardens, golf courses, etc.  Beach was amazing.  Room had an incredible ocean front view.  The epitome of beach serenity.  Staff was very courteous and service oriented.  Not a single problem the entire week we were there.  Really liked the adults only pool area.  Only a few minor negatives.  After paying an expected resort fee, we were surprised to have to rent beach chairs at an additional cost.  We weren't aware that many restaurants and bars on the property did not accept cash.  Again, not a big deal that we had to charge things to the room, but it's easy to lose track of what you're spending when you do that.  Menus for restaurants on property didn't have much variety. We were on the beach, but very little seafood offered.  It would have been nice to have a shuttle to the town of Ferdinandina, which all of the employees raved about.

Beautiful resort but watch out for extra expenses

The Plantation at Amelia Island is an absolutely beautiful resort. BGreat for walks, bike rides, jogging, etc. The golf courses were lovely and very reasonably priced. All the hotel rooms had beautiful ocean views with balconies and the rooms had nice linens and facilities. We had absolutely wonderful service by all the hotel staff. There were several pools in a beautifully appointed area complete with fire pits . The restaurants were great and the food was top drawer. Here is the downside... We were charged a $125 "resort fee" which is not bad at all but we still had to pay $30 per day for our beach chairs and umbrella??? If you need things like bottled water to take to the beach, they will cahrge you $6 LOL. Hint, buy these items at Harris Teeter or at the Marche. As much as we love the Omni Plantation, they need to rethink nickle & diming the guests. Especially the ones like us who spent alot of $$$ there.Big tip... BYOB! Especially pool side. The drinks, even non alcoholic ones are pricey. Even by resort standards. Lastly, the room was very nice and clean except for spiders on the ceiling next to sliding glass doors that lead to balcony. Watch out because they are big!

Nice Hotel

Pros: Quiet, very pretty & updated decor
Cons: see my review
Pros - The hotel is very nice. The decor is updated and very pretty. The bed linens were nice and pretty. The beach is right out in front of the hotel w/ wonderful views from the room. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our rooms were ready before 4:00 and we were able to ck in early. The beach was easy to access. The resort was quiet. Cons - The t.v. is on a computer system, so everytime I would change the channel, it would take a minute for the t.v. to respond to my remote, which was irritating. The bed was not the most comfortable. There is no fridge in the room, other than the one that is stocked with snacks & drinks for purchase. We asked for adjoining rooms and did not get them. Our bill was incorrect and two adjustments were made to it to correct it. While the beach is right in front of the hotel and easy to get to, once you get to the beach you have to walk way down to the far ends of the beach front area to access the "free" beach chairs. The chairs in the center of the beach access are reserved for paying customers. They probably had 30-40 empty chairs marked off directly in front of the hotel and then people cramped up under each other at the far ends of the beach area. Very irritating.
