We arrived in this charming mediaeval town and well-equipped renovated house with wonder. It was a step back in time, a place of peace and quiet and bird song. We explored the labyrinth of roads and passageways that centred around the main church and marketplace. With more time we would have liked to visit the many artful shops. We had fun cooking at home in the updated kitchen with the large dining table and French doors that opened to a sunlit area with a beautiful rose tree. The Spar grocery store was nearby, as were the two restaurants where we had the best cuisine on our trip in France…l’Atelier and La Brucelière, outside on their patios with exquisite menus and service. There were walking trails leading out of Issigeac that were easy and pastoral. The bedrooms on the second floor were large and comfortable. The top floor we didn’t use but would be great for kids too, with games and toys and lots of books. A small note to future guests that many historic homes have steep stairs and uneven floors….and a final special note regarding Mymy, who manages the house when the owners are away. She lives just around the corner and was extremely helpful and made our stay most pleasant. If you take the train from Bordeaux to Bergerac, our experience was hiring a taxi at the station which we rebooked for our return. We were let out at the side of the church and made our way down passages to find #5, to be welcomed by a cool, clean, character home for our too brief stay.
