Great Location, Staff, and View

Pros: Location, staff, size of room.
Cons: At some point the furniture and flooring will need to be updated but it's not horrible.
The Aston Kona was a great home base for my family and I on our first trip exploring the Big Island. I was traveling with my wife and two daughters (17 and 8) so having two beds and two baths was ideal. We stayed in condo 208 and had a wonderful view of the ocean with the waves crashing right outside of the lanai. The staff were all friendly and professional from the GM to the maintenance folks and housekeepers . We especially enjoyed the recommendations from our concierge person Dolly. We had some great food and adventures all over the Island following her advice. Perfect location in town, close to everything but not right in the center. We wish we were back there right now!

Pros: Great oceanfront location/view, apartment amenities, privacy, quiet
Cons: Nice vanity/sink area in the master bathroom area but, otherwise bathrooms could use some updating.
Location: Ideally located for making day-trips to places all along the west coast of the Big Island. Easy access to main roads and services.
This is a 2-building oceanfront property about 1.5 miles south of downtown Kailua-Kona -- just far enough from the hubbub of the busy tourist center but close enough for shopping. We had a lovely 2-bedroom/2-bath apartment with full kitchen, spacious living/dining area, and a large porch with incredible view. One of the best places we've stayed re Internet. They have a nice pool/spa area, fronted by a palm-shaded sandy area with lounge chairs. It was really nice not having a sandy beach with public access out front because we were able to enjoy an uninterrupted view and the wonderful (great for sleeping!) sound of waves. This is an "older" facility but it is up-to-date and very well maintained. Even though it's located on the busy main shore road, you can't hear traffic when you're in the very solidly-built, well-insulated building. The apartment has a very good AC system, but we liked living with the sliders open. The staff is very good. We discovered a leaking sink upon check-in -- maintenance arrived to fix it within 5 minutes of our calling the front desk. Washer/dryer. Parking outside + under the two buildings; apartments accessible by elevator. Key access to buildings/grounds, which is nice for security/peace of mind. Plenty of closet space with loads of hangers.

Great facility, great location, great staff!

Location is excellent; away from crowds in downtown, still close to everything. Beautiful little cove out front-watched spinner dolphins and surfers every morning, turtles and sunset in the evening. Fair price for a good, well maintained condo.

Great place to stay and watch the giant Pacific waves crash on the lava shoreline.

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
Great place, not to far from downtown Kona. We cooked in most nights because we didn't want to leave the place. The gas grills (4 of them) were spotless and cleaned meticulously every morning by a very dedicated employee. Watching the waves was additictive, especially those that struck the salt water wave pool on the premises.

This is my place to stay in the Kona area.

Cons: No free Internet
From its location on the Ocean, near to shopping and many restaurants. All that you could wish or want for your perfect Kona visit.

We were so surprised!

Pros: view.., alii drive is very popular
We had a great view and slept with the door open every night and listened to the waves crash on the shore...totally relaxing....really just want to stay there forever. Saw whales with my coffee in the morning....wonderful grounds beautiful flowers and trees. yes a few bugs...however in the tropics it happens and they actually came and spray "routinely" while we were there. The condo we had had nicely updated kitchen...the living room was very worn but again we were not there to sit inside at all. Bring $$$ as everything is expensive. Also, check around for deals on activities....I think we were overcharged alot by using the consierge (sp) services at the Condo.

Vacation of a life time :(

The vacation started out nice but really ended with a bang. We were there during the Tsunami and I am very DISAPPOINTED in the way the Hotel Management handled themselves. We were told to evacuate the hotel around 9:00 PM on Thursday night, told to go up to the Wal-Mart parking lot. Once we arrived there, we were not able to contact anyone at the hotel for more details. We stayed all night in our rental vehicle with no provisions or information. The next morning we tried to contact the hotel but were unable to reach anyone. We decided to go to the Airport to see about getting a flight out since we were not able to get information on what to do or where to go. We were very lucky to get the last two seats on a flight out of Hawaii. We called the hotel again and this time an answering machine answered. Once we returned home and gather our thoughts we called the hotel and rental car to get a credit for the two days that we were not there. To our amazements the hotel manager would not credit us for the Thursday night we spend in the parking lot. They were very rude and insisted that we spent half the night there so we should not receive a credit. Never once did they even offer to send us the items we left our room. This was to be a very romantic vacation but quickly turned to disaster. Very disappoint in the service we received once we were told to GET OUT. We were left on our own in unfamiliar surroundings and now they don't feel we deserve a refund. It doesn’t matter how nice the accommodation look, the service you receive is what really counts.

Overall for the price the property was pretty good.

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, right on the ocean
Cons: No free Internet, rude front desk person
Overall for the price the property was pretty good. We stayed for 10 days in an ocean front, two bedroom condo. The room was nice, and we had a beautiful ocean view, plus the condo is a short drive to Kailua-Kona. However the furniture was a bit sticky and the towels had to be re-washed after we checked in because they smelled moldy. I am assuming it was from the humidity. The housekeeping service is not great. They will vacuum and make your beds, but they don’t clean the kitchen for you. I was pretty happy with our stay until our check out day. Since we had stayed for 10 days we had to make two trips to haul all our luggage to the airport. We asked for a late checkout, but they would not give us one even though the property was probably only half full. My husband made the first trip to the airport and was a few minutes late getting back. We were supposed to be out of the room at 1:00 but were not able to get all our stuff together until 1:20. (We had 8 pieces of luggage and 4 carry-ons). The front desk manager called us at about 1:15 and rudely told us to get out of the room (that bluntly). After paying for 10 days in a relatively vacant property, you would think they could have given us an extra 20 minutes in trying to get all our stuff out, especially since they do not have any bell service. One last thing, they say there is free wi-fi but it’s blocked and the concierges don't know how to log on to it, so don’t count on being able to check your work e-mail.
