My "secret" place. I can sit here for hours watching the different shades of blue and listen to the waves crashing in from the North Sea...

Obrestad lighthouse was built in 1873, renovated in 1949 and automated 1991. It was also used by German occupation forces in WWII as part of their coastal defense system.

In 950 Erik the Red, founder of the first Norse settlement in Greenland was born nearby. Erik the Red was also the father of the famous Viking explorer Leiv Erikson, who was the first European to set foot on the American mainland in 1003.

Local landowner Eirik Bjodaskalle, (circa 950 A.D.), is said to have had his large farm here. Eirik Bjodaskalle was the father of Queen Astrid, mother of the famous Viking King Olaf Tryggvason (born 968, king of Norway from 995 to 1000) who was born nearby. Olaf Trygvason played a big part in bringing Christianity to Norway and is believed to have built the first church in Norway in 995.
Such a beautiful place...
Miles after miles of beautiful beaches in this part of Norway is in contrast to the world famous fjords just a 2-3 hours drive away. I especially loved this one which was ranked as the country's most beautiful in a newspaper. And right they were. Here you can wander and do your beach activities, what ever they might be, alone for hours upon hours without being bothered. No doubt, a beautiful place :)
