The root of the plant are in a estate that had bought Duke Wilhelm V 1597. From 1598, he had built a mansion there. His son, Duke Maximilian I had a palace built at the sites. (The old castle). The grandson of this Duke Max Emanuel built for his wedding in 1688 about 1000 meters, the castle Lustheim. As he waited 10 years later to become German Emperor he let designing a new castle. As the financial situation of the Wittelsbach was tense as almost always, and it was nothing with the title of emperor, they built only the eastern part of the castle, now called the new castle. Apart from the 'Großer Garten' in Hanover Oberschleißheimer Castle Garden is the only one of its basic structure still existing Baroque garden in Germany.
