About this space
Ulysses Suites has just been completed inside the historic J. G. Schmohl building in the heart of downtown Galena, located at 213 to 217 S. Main Street. The location is walking distance to all the best restaurants and shops. We have 7 suites and a beautiful lobby that are modern and luxurious, with lots of historical character and texture as a nod to its previous existence as the Grant Hotel from 1895 to 1933. The Presidential Suite 303 is located on the 3rd floor.
The space
The J. G. Schmohl building was built around 1850. From 1895 to 1932, Mr. Schmohl ran the Grant Hotel in this building. We have loving renovated this well-deserved building with a nod to the Grant Hotel from the turn of the century. We have 3 two bedroom/2 bath suites, 2 one bedroom/1 bath suites and 2 studios. Having a special family/friend gathering? You can rent the entire 7 suites that will accommodate 21 people. Ulysses Suites main entrance is at 214 S. Bench Street and is also accessible between 213 and 215 S. Main Street. Ulysses Suites has been awarded the Galena Excellence in Historic Preservation Designation in 2020. Perfect in every way

Absolutely stunning apartment. The whole building is beautifully finished. My boyfriend and I kept talking about how much we would've loved to live in the apartment that we rented. It was immaculate. Beautifully decorated. Comfortable beds. Gorgeous high ceilings. A cozy fireplace. Perfectly located and walkable to every shop you would want to visit on Main Street. Every bit of information that you would need to have on how something worked or what to do was in a nice book on the counter. They also had recommendations for places and a welcoming gift of delicious macarons from a local bakery. Honestly of all the places that I've ever stayed in a VRBO, this was the best. Check in and check out was incredibly easy. The owner was incredibly kind and accommodating, and let us move our check-in date back a day due to an issue that came up on our end. We can't recommend this place highly enough and we will definitely be back. We'd love to try out the other spaces that they have in their building.

Favorite place to stay in Galena

We love staying here, and we have for the last four trips now. It's in a convenient location, has nice, clean rooms, and has friendly owners who will accommodate your needs if they can. I highly recommend it.
