If you are driving through Fort Washakie make sure to stop and see the grave of Sacajawea and her son. Located not far off the highway in a lovely cemetery, this is an easy, quick excursion and a great place to stretch your legs and get a little US history. Her grave is located just up the hill from the parking area.

The fort remained a military outpost until 1909 when it was decommissioned and turned over to the Shoshone Indian Agency.
