The custom log furniture, handcrafted by Nathaniel Franklin, adds rustic charm to the space.

With two 3/4 baths (each with a sink, toilet, and shower), the space ensures comfort and convenience for all guests. Whether you're soaking in the peaceful surroundings or venturing out to explore Capulin Volcano, The Capulin Volcano View House offers a rustic, yet modern, experience perfect for a memorable getaway.
Relax in the Gardens and The Green Haus Oasis
Step outside to explore the property’s lush gardens, filled with local and native plants, and enjoy the calming sounds of multiple water features that surround the area. Guests are encouraged to wander and take in the beauty of the landscape. At the heart of the property, you'll find The Green Haus, a solar-powered, radiant-heated greenhouse built from trees harvested right here on the property. The Green Haus stays warm at 85-90°F, even when temperatures outside dip near zero, and its solar heating system also provides warmth for the main house, concrete patios, and walkways—showcasing our commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.
Guest Access:
The porch on the east side of the Bunkhouse is a private and peaceful spot, where guests have access to a picnic table, comfortable chairs, and a fire pit. The fire pit is lightweight, and we kindly ask that guests move it out from under the porch before using it to ensure safety.
The long dirt road leading to the property is a great spot for walking, but we do ask that guests check with us beforehand to ensure there’s no livestock in the area. We want you to enjoy your time here, and we’ll make sure you have everything you need to explore safely.
The Neighborhood:
The best part... no neighborhood! This is a remote and wonderful place to get away. Dark skies and quiet nights are the norm.
Getting Around:
For the most part the Bunkhouse is accessible by 2 wheel drive vehicle. There is a 4 mile drive down a well maintained dirt road. If there is a particular weather event please reach out ahead of time so we can be expecting you and available if you have any issues getting in.
Other Things to Note:
Other Things to Note
Limited Local Amenities: While there aren’t many restaurants or grocery stores nearby, you’ll find a cafe in Des Moines and a gas station that carries some basic necessities, including a selection of alcohol.
Country Living: Expect bugs, dust, and tons of wildlife. It’s all part of the charm and natural beauty of the area!
Ranch Time, Not Hotel Time: If something’s not quite right, let us know! Since we handle everything ourselves, we’ll get it taken care of. But keep in mind—this is ranch time, not hotel time. You won’t find 24/7 concierge service or daily housekeeping here. Instead, you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside, at your own pace.
A Relaxed, Homey Stay: Our space is comfortable and cozy, with plenty of character. But it’s not the same as staying in a hotel. We offer a laid-back, personal experience where you can relax, unplug, and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Interaction with Guests:
We’re happy to answer any questions you may have, so don’t hesitate to reach out! Sometimes we’re around, and sometimes we’re not, but we usually respond quickly. If you’re interested in learning more about the area or need recommendations, we’re more than happy to interact and help you explore. That said, we also respect your space and privacy, so if you’re looking for seclusion, we’ll gladly give you the room to enjoy your stay on your own terms.
