The 'comfort room', a sad reflection of the 1980s, had wooden framed, thin double glazed paneled windows. One of the security handles to lock a window was missing and they steamed up with condensation every morning. The only way to control room temperature was to open a window out into the grounds (no AC).
There was ONE biscuit in the tea tray upon arrival. It looked like it had been there for a long time.
The decor was tired and reminded me of the vintage TV programme, 'Crossroads Motel'.
The staff were a blast from the past in terms of their uniforms and general attitudes. We received one smile from one member of staff, Mike, in the bar, who looked desperate to make friends given how empty & lonely the bar looked and one smile upon our arrival at check in from a lovely Ukrainian receptionist.
The £14 breakfasts were horrible and not worth the £28 I forked out (so much for 'children go free'). All cooked ingredients were in bain marie's steaming away all morning. My son, who likes his food, left the sausages and bacon on his plate.
I refused to eat any of it.
I ate two slices of melon, two slices of grapefruit, a stale croissant and a slice of toast which took two runs on the conveyer belt toasting machine just to get a slight toasting.
The bathroom in our room had beautiful, clean tiles and blue patterned ceramics on a boarder. They looked original. The hot water tap at the sink trickled and was stiff. The bathroom door coathook was missing! The shower was tempramental. Sad
