"Really helped me out!"
I was in San Diego for a conference, and my light home was cancelled due to a blizzard back in Boston. The place I was staying was completely booked, so I needed somewhere else to go. The staff here were great! I was able to drop my bags off early during the last day of the conference, and they held them at the desk. My flight home was two days away, and I was able to get work done outside in the sunshine and also in their little office off the lobby. The wifi worked great in my room too, but I couldn't stay away from the nice weather! The location is great - right in Little Italy and close to lots of restaurants, shops etc... I walked to the Harbor one day, and to Balboa park another day. When I go back to San Diego, I will definitely stay here again!

"Beautiful historic hotel in Gaslamp"
This hotel has many pros and no cons. We loved staying here and plan to come again! First, you have to keep in mind that it's a historic hotel. The rooms aren't going to be huge. However, a room with a queen bed was more than adequate for two people. The hotel is beautifully decorated. They had free Girl Scout cookies in the lounge. They had free yoga lessons in a studio within the hotel. They gave free guided walking tours. Their attached restaurant was very good. The hotel service was very good; they were very polite and seemed to enjoy working there. The Sofia Hotel is located in Gaslamp and a $5 Uber ride from the main area/Gaslamp sign. Honestly, we could have walked to the main area if it wasn't raining. Definitely worth the amount of money paid and was a great experience!

"Comfortable and close to downtown"
My wife and I stayed in the Governors Room which is on the second floor and looks out over the main entry. Except for the usual street noise the room was extremely quiet. The room and bath were also very clean as were the grounds. One small complaint is that it took about five minutes for the shower to heat up. A minor inconvenience. "Breakfast" was very minimal with a parsimonious selection of muffins, yoghurt, juices etc. We weren't planning on eating breakfast at the Inn anyway so it wasn't a disappointment to us. The parking was interesting as the Inn has some kind of arrangement with the office building across the street to use their parking structure. The only problem that we had was on Sunday morning was when we got up early and had to access the garage from inside the office building itself. I figured it out eventually, but it could have been quite a challenge for someone who gets lost easily. My only suggestion is to get very explicit instructions from the staff about entering the parking garage on weekends and holidays. There is a small market and deli across the street which is very convenient for putting together a picnic or grabbing a few necessities. The staff couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. Every time we returned back to the property someone jumped up and opened the front door for us. If you like staying in historic homes I would highly recommend this property with it charm and ambiance and closeness to downtown and Balboa Park.

Hotel was in a great location, within 15-20 minutes of everywhere we wanted to go. Even enjoyed just sitting on the patio and watching all the surfers and people out walking the board walk. Amazing views. Hotel was very well kept and staff was very friendly and helpful.

"Full service hotel in great location"
This hotel has everything you could want in a hotel - great location, gorgeous lobby, piano bar, 24 hour (delicious) room service, pool, spa, and every room has a balcony, free bottles of water, fridge, coffee maker, and a spacious vanity area. The tiniest 3 improvements could make for a truly perfect stay. They should offer free coffee in the lobby in the morning. Especially because they are stingy on the in-room "refills." I stayed three nights and never got a refill on my coffee pods or soaps - the original soap lasted the four days, but the two coffee pods did not. Finally it is very difficult to find an outlet. I had to pull out the (very heavy) marble nightstand and unplug the bedside lamp so I could plug in my phone. It would be nice if they put a little outlet strip on the nightstands in light of this. So other than coffee, restocking the room, and outlets - none of which are major enough to distract a star - this hotel provides a completely 5 star experience.

Why stay downtown for a conference when the view of the Pacific Ocean is so lovely at L'Auberge? The rate was even lower than my downtown convention rate but yet the commute was a breeze. Highly recommend!
