The water pressure in our room (315) was poor. There was mold in the caulk in the bathroom. We did not appreciate that after a long day of helping a family member pack, return to find that the bar was closed 3 1/2 hours early without any warning. We were also surprised that there were no bar snacks offered (pretzels, peanuts, etc.) Aside from those few things we had a very nice stay. We found the staff to be very friendly and welcoming.

Way Past its Prime

Pros: The desk clerks were teenage girls who were very friendly and almost apologetic in their manner.
Cons: Employ a professional to assist in upgrading the property. I think the "home grown" period has past and there are way too many chains to compete with.
Location: Downtown Starkville seems to be undergoing a resurgence. Good places to eat within walking distance or short drive. Must try Aunt Marti's Bakery. Yum
This is a 50s-60s era property. It is badly in need of a good general rehab. The rooms are small to the point of being cramped. The room a/c is loud and barely sufficient to keep the room in the low 70s. Ice is available by going to the front desk and asking the clerk to fill your bucket. We made this reservation relying on the "Best in Mississippi" awards and recommendations. Bad mistake Because of an A/C leak the restaurant was only open for breakfast when we arrived. I don't know whether it was opened afterward. The fresh fruit was delicious.

Great owners.

Small hotel where you can tell that the owners care about their guests.

Cute historic hotel

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet, Quiet
it's right where it needs to be on Main street (on the Sunday nite we were there the historic "Main street" was totally, 100% quiet so NO traffic noise. My daughter and I walked the short street at 11pm just to stretch our legs and saw lots of shops with MSU-related items but not a soul in sight ;-). Breakfast is cooked to order. The staff was really nice, we'll definitely stay there again :-).

Nice but unfriendly.

The actual hotel was very nice and in a great location in downtown starkville but the staff was terrible with the exception of one person. The entire staff was extreamly rude and unhelpfull. I would not stay in this hotel again given that there are other hotels in starkville where the staff doesn't treat you as if you are dumb and diseased. Very, very poor customer service.
