Really friendly and helpful host. The room was lovely and clean and looked as expected. Easy quick check in and a very short walk to the Saturday Night Market. Water was provided in the room. There was also coffee available downstairs and parking on the street. There was a slight smell in the bathroom probably from the pipes outside but not in the bedroom if you shut the bedroom door.

Quiet retreat

For the price who could ask for more? Lovely friendly helpful hosts, pleasant retreat from the noisy city. Beautiful garden area to enjoy morning coffee and just a few min walk to the old city. If you stay, just a 100 metres up the road is the best mango smoothie at a great price.

Property is good and worth the money is spent. It’s not a hotel so dont expect any luxury. The room sizes are small and may not suit if you have lot of luggage or a kid .

The Baanlek Homestay was the perfect place for our short stay in Chiang Mai. Lek was a lovely, kind host and the property is attractive and well kept. Although we were visiting during the bustling Loy Krathong festival, the immediate area was quiet even then.

Lek and his wife were lovely hosts and the room was fresh and clean, with my bed being made for me each day. Lek is a really nice guy too, and plays the guitar well. The guest house is an old Thai teak building about 5 mins walk from Chiang Mai gate with easy access to the evening food market there. Being outside the old city, it's quieter than it is inside, but one's also near enough to reach it without any issue. Also, for me, I liked being near the Old Medicine Hospital (for great Thai massages). In the mornings there's free instant coffee and tea. Their cat, Cocoa, was also friendly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone that is travelling through Chiang Mai. Lek and his partner go out of their way to make you feel welcome and I have never seen such attention to guests' needs before. Every morning a different breakfast is prepared for you depending on your tastes, either Thai or western dishes. I can highly recommend the Thai dishes. The accommodation itself is very tidy and a great example of a traditional Thai house. This in itself was part of the reason I wanted to stay, just to have the experience. The airconditioning is effective and you have everything you need. I can imagine some people may be underwhelmed if they are used to 5 star accommodation so I don’t want to give the impression that it is. The linen is lovely and toiletries replaced daily. The courtyard where breakfast is served is a relaxing haven in a well packed and busy city. I can't recommend this accommodation highly enough. The management and the truly personal service they provide is the best I’ve seen. I will return here whenever I am in Chiang Mai again. It has been the best hotel experience of my life, without doubt.

Easily the best place I’ve ever stayed. The owners were both helpful and incredibly sweet. The room was very clean and a perfect size. It’s in a great location; a block from a food market, convenience mart and the square of old Chiangmai. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in this city. The best hospitality experience I’ve had.

our favorite place in thailand

My wife and I stayed here in early June and we absolutely loved this place! This is a homestay with about 12 rooms. The family that runs this makes this a 5 star place in my book! Upon arrival they treated us like thier own family. They gave us tips on where to go for certain activities including night markets, laundry, bars, and massages. When we would return after a long day the husband would often greet us with a beer and we would talk about our day. They offer free transport to and from the airport which is very close. They also offer breakfast every morning which is amazing! They change the breakfast every day for you and will ask you what time you would like to eat in the morning. The rooms are what you would expect for a homestay but, are very clean and tidy. This area seems very safe and my wife and I never worried about walking home late. In fact the location is very nice as you are only about a 5 minute walk from the old city. This is by far my favorite place I've stayed in Thailand. I've never received the friendship and kindness that these people offer to thier guests anywhere else. When I return to Thailand my wife and I will be staying here again.

"Home Stay" it is!

Probably the nicest hotel stay we have ever had! Owner family on premises, and available to assist you without being too pushy. You had your privacy, but they were always available to provide information and help when needed. Very welcoming.

Amazing couple who made our stay in chaing Mai aw!

The couple that owns the home stay made our trip so enjoyable. The location is on a quiet street but it is walking distance to shops and restaurants. The wife made the best breakfast every morning! They were nice enough to give us information about what to do in the area and take us to the airport. I will recommend them to our friends

Fantastic, 5 star, can't wait to return!

We are thrilled with our stay at Baanlek, having stayed at 3 hotels prior to Baanlek all of which were disappointing, it was amazing to have such a warm and great reception. Mr Lek and Boon came to collect us from the airport with their free collection service, they were incredibly friendly and made us feel like VIP's from the beginning. Check in was nice and easy (even though we arrived early) Boon gave us a map and talked us through all the useful local knowledge and sight seeing places. Mr Lek's wife Jen was fantastic and very accommodating with our vegan/vege needs, she cooked us some fantastic breakfasts and worked around what ever time we requested to eat. The room was clean, comfortable, everything you need and the location is a 10 min walk to the gate, so very close but not in the noise, perfect balance. Mr Lek went out of his way to please us and we felt so looked after and safe, we stayed up one night listening to him play guitar, some very special memories. One day our bank card was swallowed at an ATM, Mr Lek was fantastic at helping us sort it and giving us a phone etc. Thank you to all the fantastic team at Baanlek, we can not wait to return in the future.

If you want 5 star accommodation.. With Move on..

Lek I found to be a little over powering in his greeting.. But very genuine.. Read that there may be a bug problem.. Due to visitors returning from the elephant experiences.. Hahahaa.. Absolute rot.. Bed was CLEAN and immaculately made. I had not made a booking for our return from the Journey to Freedom experience.. ( Well worth doing ). Due to my misgivings .. Ha !.. Booked for our return as soon as I had checked the place out.. Baanlek has atmosphere.. :-))))) The price is right.. ( poor Kiwi ).. My first call if and when ever I return.. .

Wonderful place to stay in Chiang Mai!

We stayed in a comfortable room with a double bed, and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Baanlek Home Stay is in a great location close to the south old city wall, the Saturday market, and a number of good food stands and cafés. Lek and his wife are wonderful, gracious people, and they make you feel very much at home. The Thai breakfasts are DELICIOUS, but make sure you ask for the Thai breakfast.

Pleasant memories

Our hosts, Yen and Mr. Lek, received us with big smiles and we felt an instant welcome. They were always willing to help us in every way. They very positively represented the Thai people. The room was small but very clean. After a full day in Chaing Maie, we enjoyed our evening beer with Mr. Lek in the courtyard and his soft voice singing to us as he strummed on his guitar. We take away very pleasant memories of our time at Baanlek. The only complaint would be that there is very little place to put your clothes and a shelf in the bathroom for toiletries would be very helpful.
