Welcome to Kathmandu, Nepal! All international flights to Kathmandu are directed through the Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in the east of the city. Swoon over the jaw-dropping mountain views as you sweep in over this colorful, energetic, and friendly city at the foot of the Himalayas. Transportation From KTM
There are many cheap hotels in Kathmandu clustered just outside the airport gates. For travelers exhausted after their Kathmandu flights and ready to drop straight into bed, these are an ideal option. If you're going farther, be aware that some hotels offer transfers. If you've arranged this, you can identify your driver by his sign. A prepaid taxi service with set rates is available, or you can take your chances haggling with the scrum of taxi drivers just outside the barricade. It's all part of the experience! If none of these options appeal, there's also a bus that picks passengers up at the airport gate. It's an adventure, especially for first-time travelers, but hey, it's cheap! When you make it to your hotel, freshen up after your long flight and step out onto the streets of Kathmandu for your first Nepalese adventure. Where will you begin? Explore the medieval temples of Durbar Square or visit one of the many UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Kathmandu Valley, such as Swayambhunath Stupa or Bouddhanath Stupa.
