Transportation from HEL
Travelers landing on Helsinki flights have a range of options for getting to the city from HEL. Helsinki Region Transport recently opened the Ring Rail Line, which you can ride between the airport and Helsinki on either the I or P train. Trains run every 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the day of the week and time of day. Alternatively, hop on a Finnair City Bus to the city center (these leave every 20 minutes). If you prefer to make the trip on your own wheels, you'll find a number of rental car agencies from which to choose on site at HEL. Don't forget to make your reservation in advance! It takes less than 30 minutes to reach Helsinki by car; taxis are also available outside the arrivals area.
Once you arrive in Helsinki, drop your bags off at the hotel and hit the town. Absorb national history at the Finnish National Museum, or take the ferry out to Suomenlinna, an historic island fortress and UNESCO site. Art enthusiasts may appreciate a visit to the Finnish National Museum of Art or Kiasma, which showcases contemporary art. Later in the evening, stroll along Mannerheimintie, the main street in Helsinki, to check out the diverse shopping and dining scene.
