Book a hotel near Calbourne Water Mill, Newport

"The hotel is beautiful and modern which we liked. It did lack in some big areas and I frankly expected better. The toilet was dirty on arrival and I don’t mean just a little. There were dried urine stains over the seat, the toilet, the base and the floor. Not sure how this could even be missed (which I can only assume means they don’t clean properly). It was resolved straight away but we shouldn’t have had to ask. The staff in the hotel were good. However, not so much at the onsite restaurant (The Rock). We found the service to be poor at the restaurant. We had to wait nearly an hour for a simple main meal which we were told was because of a lack of staff. This wasn’t communicated until after we paid. The prices are also too expensive. We had breakfast every day at this restaurant. The value for money is poor. They do not make it clear what is included. They will only let you order 1 item from the hot menu which is not stated anywhere. So you could effectively be paying £25 for some hot porridge. You also have to self serve everything including hot drinks and toast etc. At this price point I would expect a level of table service. Finally, the room is lovely. The terrace and view is amazing. We loved this. Again though there were some minor things that could be improved. This isn’t a cheap hotel and they need to have a better finish and eye for detail. Carpet edges and joins frayed. Holes in bedsheets. Cracked lampshades. It’s a shame but we probably wouldn’t return."

"Our hosts were very welcoming and provided pretty much everything you could wish, a home from home environment that allows you to be comfortable and enjoy your stay. "

"We had a lovely stay at Howecroft over the new year period. Very spacious and well stocked with friendly helpful hosts.The gardens were the highlight for us, the kids spent hours just exploring, despite the freezing weather.The house was a little tired in places, carpets worn and some damp smells in the hall and lounge. It was spotlessly clean though. All in all a magnificent place and would be amazing in the summer with access to the pool."

"Just had a wonderful week at The Hawthorns, the house was spotless and homely , nice linen and comfy beds , the kitchen had everything we needed especially for self catering. Lots of board games for the children , smart tv with Netflix etc . Sarah the host was very welcoming and gave us lots of tips on where to go etc .The welcome basket was the best we’ve ever had, so thoughtful. The local pub was very welcoming and child friendly. The local store and post office had everything we needed and lots of fresh produce and island treats . The hot tub was an absolute bonus , and also the enclosed back garden was so safe for the dogs . Lots of lovely walks straight from the property. We will definitely be back .Thanks "

"A fantastic, roomy property in a beautiful rural setting. Sally was really helpful at check-in as the postcode doesn't quite match the location and tricky to locate in the dark! The property is furnished very tastefully and equipped to a high standard too. TV, bed and shower all very good. A few handy welcome gifts too including, tea, coffee, biscuits and washing up things - thanks! Would definitely recommend."

"Fabulous place to stay. Comfy sofas Lovely gardens Clean n tidy The only critique I can offer is perhaps a double in the first bedroom at top of stairs. That way two couples can come, or an elderly parent and their daughter/son in law and noone is fighting over the downstairs double."
