One of the best hotels in Europe for travelers.

Pros: Wide hallways, clean spacious rooms, quality restaurant and good sized elevators. Excellent location.
Cons: Softer beds, better elevator function.
Location: Pest side near the Chain Bridge, St. Stephen Basilica, Parliament, opera house, river cruises, hop-on-hop-off tour buses, many restaurants & cafes.
I have stayed at this hotel on various occasions since 1989 when Hungary was still under USSR domination. Having stayed many places in Europe, my impression then was that this was one of the best hotels on the continent for practical business travelers. The makeover after becoming an Intercontinental hotel has only improved on this situation. The restaurant food and service are quite good. The location is excellent with perfect views of the castle & St. Matthias Church across on the Buda side. Rooms are spacious, clean and well furnished. Some minor complaints: 1. The beds are extremely firm. I had to reposition several times during the night to avoid waking up with a stiff back. 2. The restaurant's approach to staffing is such that every guest seems to be the responsibility of every waiter and waitress. We had random people coming up to us throughout our meals asking if everything was okay, how we liked the food and beverages and if we needed more of this or that. It's very attentive, but at the cost of constant interruption. 3. The elevators require a room key to activate the buttons, and the system is hit-or-miss. Sometimes it took several tries to get the elevator going.

Nice Hotel, Great Location

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, professional staff, responsive to requests, clean and well maintained
Cons: No free Internet
This is a very nice hotel in a terrific location, just a few steps to Chain Bridge. When I checked in, the clerk gave me a smoking room. This was not what I expected, so I asked for non-smoking. He told me that the hotel was full (there was some sort of corporate conference going on) but he would change me after the first night. The room was fine, so I didn't change. The staff were all very polite and professional, which was a plus. I asked the housekeeping staff to remove the comforter on my bed and replace it with a top sheet, and despite a slight language barrier, the change was made to my complete satisfaction. The hotel was a good value for the price, definitely well kept and up to Intercontinental standards. I had a room in the back of the hotel. The rooms on the other side had spectacular views of the Danube River and Castle Hill, but those were likely more expensive. There is no free Wi-Fi and you have to pay for internet access in the business center, but the concierge did print my boarding passes for me at no charge by using his iPad. Nice touch. I ate at the restaurant one night and the food was OK, nothing remarkable. Hungarian wine is definitely an acquired taste, but the prices by the glass were as high as good French or Italian wines. Also, I had access to the spa which included a small pool, a steam room, and sauna. A fitness center and massage were also available. The facilities were very clean, and the staff was very nice and welcoming. Overall, i would highly recommend this hotel.

Great Location - Between Chain Bridge and Vorosmarty Ter Metro

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet
Cons: barely adequate air conditioning
I think this was a very good hotel. I would stay there again. The location is perfect. You can easily walk to Metro. My room overlooked the Danube. The windows were clean enough to take good night photos through. The bed was large and comfortable with lots of pillows. The whole room, to include the large modern bathroom, was spotless. There were lots of nice places to eat on the riverwalk within the immediate proximity of the hotel. If you need a reliable taxi, they are parked right outside the front door. The rooms were quiet. The best evidence this is a first class hotel were the repeated observations of police security details whisking VIPs in and out. If it is good enough for them... :) On the negative side, I like a pretty cold room and the air conditioner labored all night but never really got to cool. In their defense, it was very hot and humid outside during my early July visit.

Great Location.

Pros: excellent location.
The staff at the Intercontinental Hotel was completely helpful and made my stay in Budapest a wonderful experience. The view from my room was great and absolutely beautiful at night with the castle , the palace , and the Chain Bridge. The breakfast buffet was so complete with many different types of food being offered. I had no problem with finding something to eat each morning. The staff was most helpful with providing tourist information and helped in arranging day tours in and around Budapest. I recommend this hotel with the highest rating and will stay at the hotel again when visiting Budapest. The location of the hotel is very convenient to everything in the town center. I could walk to all major tourist sites from the hotel.

Intercontinental was brimming with positive energy

Pros: beautiful location
Cons: No free Internet
After completing a challenging trip through Poland and Czech Republic, we'd decided to treat ourselves in Budapest. Our expectations were definitely surpassed by the Intercontinental where we stayed for five nights. We were beautifully welcomed from the moment we pulled up. The staff was exceptional - from the bell captains to the room cleaners. We had a spectacular view of the Danube, finer than any postcard. Waking up refreshed from the comfy beds and air-conditioning - essential in summertime Budapest - made our days of sightseeing a pleasure. The location near Vaci Utca was convenient and walkable to all. We will definitely return!

Wonderful service, perfect location

Couldn't recommend a hotel more highly than the InterContinental Budapest. The room was very comfortable, the hotel ideally located for sightseeing and evening entertainment and the service was truly first class. The concierge suite makes everything even more special and is so worth the extra fees. The breakfast layout there is amazing and the evening hors d'oeuvres and wines could (and did at least once for us) substitute for a meal. The internet connection, magazines and other services makes one feel like they're royalty. While I generally think views are over-rated, the river/castle hill view is uniquely beautiful. If you're going to go for this extra anywhere in the world, this should be the place.
