Dear Hannah,We are terribly sorry your experience at the Manchester View did not go well. Although we usually receive high scores and glowing reviews, no one can avoid the rare bad stay. First, the room number of each type of room (of which there are multiples) can be switched since all the same type are identical. We appreciate you commenting that the room was beautiful. Secondly, the premium room, a Queen room with two beds, has a wood-burning fireplace, hence the smoky scent. Housekeeping was in the room before you arrived and didn't find the scent to be too strong at that time, but the rain may have enhanced the strength of it. We're sorry you found it offensive and felt the need to move your belongings. Regarding the door locks, we checked the sliding door and found the lock to be working, and the wooden door stopper allows only a few inches (not enough for the space to be an issue of safety). The locks on the door to the room also work as intended. The deadlock is to be used when inside the room for guests' safety. It is not a double lock from the outside. As you mention at the end of your review, the hotel is in a very safe area. Lastly, we apologize for any miscommunication with our front desk staff. The hotel was indeed at almost full occupancy the nights of your stay (there were a couple of vacancies, but neither had the two beds you needed); our front desk staff is usually quite pleasant and helpful, and we're sorry this was not your experience.

Dear Teresa, Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to leave a comment about your experience at the Manchester View. We're so glad you noticed the room was clean. Our cleaning practices are top-notch. Our housekeepers were ahead of the game when COVID-19 hit. They have always sanitized all surfaces, as well as nooks and crannies in every room. Of course, we more than meet the requirements and mandates set forth by the State of Vermont. As for the bed, we change mattresses often, so we're not surprised you found the bed to be acceptable. The comments about the breakfast and pool are surprising because the fact that they are currently and temporarily closed (due to COVID-19 and State mandates) is disclosed not only on the website, but also on the confirmation letter sent to you when you booked the room, as well as by the manager who called you to confirm you were aware of the closures. She gave you the option to cancel if the absence of those 2 amenities was a deal breaker. Sorry you were disappointed; we do hope you enjoyed your stay here anyway and hope you come again when our refreshing outdoor heated pool and complimentary Continental breakfast are open!
