This was my first stay at this property under the name Mandarin Oriental. I last stayed here about 30 years ago when it was the Bangkok Oriental or just the Oriental, and was rated the #1 hotel in the world. I miss those days. Gone is the personalized stationery waiting for me in my room. In fact, gone was any mention of my name in the room. I’ve stayed in four other hotels in Bangkok on this trip. ALL of them had a personalized welcome letter waiting for me in my room. Not here. All of them had my name on the tv screen. Not here. The others even had a better array of fresh fruit in the room. I also miss the string quartet performing in the lobby. No more. It felt like the current management is milking the name and reputation while letting the service decline. It is still a superb hotel, but I don’t feel the value for money proposition is there any longer. I had better experiences elsewhere for half the price. The river setting is just not that much more valuable to me.

Cleanliness was impeccable. Great service including restaurants and the Bamboo Bar. Khun Wa Sin who serves dinner at the restaurant on the ground floor is provides excellent service.

It was an amazing experience for us to stay at The Mandarin oriental in Bangkok for two nights ! Everything was terrific, except for the hairdryer, which was too clumsy and a heavy!
