I wish that some of the other lounges have been opened. I understand that it may be a seasonal thing for areas like the rooftop Terrace Etc. But it would have been nice to experience that particular area of the hotel.

Dear Juan, Thank you for staying at the Athenaeum InterContinental Athens and for taking the time to write about your experience. Guest satisfaction is what we strive for and we are sorry for the disappointment you experienced due to our rooftop bar and restaurant being closed during your stay. May we take this opportunity to advise you that our Premiere does not operate for the week leading to Orthodox Easter. We thank you again for your review and hope to have the chance to welcome you back to our hotel on a future visit to Athens. Yours sincerely, Martha Pallis Guest Relations Manager

The Intercontinental is always a nice property.

Pros: The Intercontinental is always a nice property.
Cons: Updated furniture in room....more contemporary. The bed was super soft (a little too soft).
Location: The location is on the outskirts of all the sightseeing destinations. You have to take a cab, as walking is too far.
The Athens location is a little bit of a journey from the Plaka and the Acropolis by cab.

slept like a baby.....

when one arrives to the hotel, she will notice that the surrounding neighborhood is not aesthetically pleasing and a slight distance from downtown... However, there is a shuttle bus provided by the hotel that leaves frequently and cabs are easily available...I suggest one determine price for destination with cab driver previous to driving off...Once in the spacious lobby decorated with unique art, the staff is welcoming and inviting..the hotel takes pride in the room's bed and offers a pamphlet describing details down to the sheet"s thread count... The bed was one of most comfortable that I have slept on in a hotel..the room service is efficient, somewhat pricey, but fulfilling..the gym is spacious and offers many workout machines....and after a great time in Greece, I recommend the pearl facial at the spa...It was relaxing and made my face glow for my flight home....

Even More Expensive Than It Looks

Staying at this hotel reminded me of the innkeeper's song from Les Miserables: "Here a little cut; There a little slice; Two percent for looking in the mirror twice." Prepare to get soaked by hidden fees. Call me foolish for not finding the laundry price list hidden in the back of the closet, but when the small bag we turned in was billed at over $* we got no sympathy from the management. This hotel may be the only option in town for large business conventions, but it is no good for vacationers. You have to take a shuttle bus or taxi to get out of the dingy part of town where the hotel is located (make sure the taxi driver starts the meter or they will overcharge you also). There are no good restaurants within comfortable walking distance and the hotel restaurant is as overpriced as everything else. I was told that part of the hotel had been renovated, but you have to pay extra to stay there; our room looked like a cheap motel on the Gulf Coast. Avoid this hotel.

amaaaazing

The rooms were exquisite with incredible views, and more importantly, large bathrooms and beds you didn't want to leave. The front desk attendants were the nicest, most helpful people i have ever met, and by the end of our trip, my boyfriend and i felt that we had made a few greek grandfathers. i would comment on the food but we weren't able to try it due to our budgets. the location was great.....the parthenon and syntagma square were both within walking distance, as was plaka and an amazing vegetarian restaurant just up the street that boasted the best dessert waffles in the area (and they were). i would do more than stay there again, i didn't want to leave. definitely a home away from home :)

5* Hotel in Athens

The Intercontinental is a 5* hotel. The hotel is located about 45 minutes from the airport. It's 2 metro stops or 5 minute taxi ride to the Acropolis. The rooms are clean and spacious. Ppl say the neighborhood is a little shady but we didn't have any problems. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
