The region
The Brendon Hills are a beautiful, unspoilt ridge of high farmland on the eastern fringe of Exmoor National Park, offering far-reaching views and deep rural tranquillity.
This is a landscape of scattered farms, ancient hedgerows, and quiet lanes, stretching between the open moor of Exmoor to the west and the gentler Quantock Hills to the east. The area has a rich industrial heritage -- iron ore was mined here from the 1850s to the 1880s, and the remains of the West Somerset Mineral Railway can still be traced across the hillside. Today, the Brendon Hills are a haven for walkers, cyclists, and anyone seeking genuine peace and seclusion in the heart of the West Somerset countryside.
Local Amenities
The Brendon Hills are deeply rural, so it is worth stocking up before you arrive. The nearest village with everyday facilities is Wheddon Cross, approximately 3 to 5 miles from most properties. Wheddon Cross has a well-stocked village shop and post office, a pub serving food, and a petrol station. The village of Brompton Regis, tucked into the valley below Wimbleball Lake, has a small community shop and a charming village pub.
Nearby Shopping
Dulverton, approximately 8 miles south, is a handsome small town on the southern edge of the National Park with a good range of independent shops, a butcher, a chemist, and the Exmoor National Park Visitor Centre. Watchet, approximately 8 miles to the north-east, is a historic harbour town with a small supermarket, independent shops, and a marina.
For larger supermarkets, Minehead is approximately 10 miles away and has Tesco, Morrisons, and Lidl, as well as most high street banks. Taunton is approximately 22 miles and offers full town-centre shopping including John Lewis and Debenhams.
Security Deposit Information A £250 security deposit is required. This will be added to the total price of your booking, and will be refunded after your stay unless the owner discovers damage to the property or its contents after your departure.

Fabulous place for a weekend with friends
Middle Stolford is a beautiful house in a wonderful setting, immaculate inside and wonderful attention to detail - particularly the towels, robes and blankets provided for use in the hot tub and outside areas. The hosts were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Would definately recommend!

Middle Stolford Cottage
The cottage, and facilities provided could not be better. This was a long awaited break for 3 generations of the family from aged 2 to 70+ and we were all catered for. The younger members loved the tennis court and play area. Everyone loved the hot tub especially in the evening looking at the stars. The barbecue room was very much appreciated. The surroundings are beautiful with lovely walks straight from cottage. We could not fault anything. Thank you.

A really nice place for a family get together
This is an excellent property with very good facilities for a family stay. The accommodation is very good and the rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The kitchen is well supplied with a very good range of crockery, cutlery and equipment to make anything you could think of. The family table was excellent for nice family meals and close to the kitchen for access to the dish washer.
The children liked the tennis courts and we were able to enjoy being in a very nice rural setting. We all enjoyed our stay.
