Transportation From GVA
When you're purchasing tickets to Geneva, it's a good idea to decide how you want to travel the 2.5 miles from the airport to downtown because there are a number of options. Unireso trains run regularly from the airport, and they all stop at Geneva-Cornavin station in the center of the city; the airport railway station is directly accessible from Arrivals. Buses also leave the airport every 15 minutes or so, and leave from the Check-in level, adjacent to the railway station. Pick up free tickets for Geneva public transport from the machine at Baggage Collection. Alternative methods of transportation include free shuttle buses to Swiss hotels, taxis and car rentals. You'll find nearly two dozen hotels near Geneva airport, so when you're budgeting for your airfare, include the cost of your accommodation. A highlight of the city is Lake Geneva, one of the largest Alpine lakes in Western Europe, where you can water-ski, wakeboard, sail or row, windsurf, and scuba-dive; the lake is also a haven for many species of birds. Take a guided tour around the city to see the Old Town as well as some of the magnificent buildings, such as the Cathedral St. Pierre and Palais des Nations.
