Seaside stay .At this Venice City Center guesthouse, you'll be well placed to visit St. Mark's Square and St. Mark's Basilica, both steps away. Also, Rialto Bridge is within half a mile (1 km) and Grand Canal is within 2 miles (3 km).
Located in the heart of Venice, the house overlooks the Gran Canal, near Campo S. Stefano, Accademia, and S. Marco Square. It's 140 square metres, with 5 windows on the Gran Canal. You'll have the privilege of living in an historical building, the foundation of which dates back to 1400. Francesco Sforza, the duke of Milan, started the construction of the palace because he wanted to have a base in Venice for his political influence. The project was stopped by the Republic, frightened by the power of the duke, but the building was eventually finished in 1500. The basement and a column made by the architect Filarete still exist from the original project. In 1500 the painter Tiziano Vecellio had his studio in the apartment, and in 1600 the spanish plotted the conspirancy against the republic of Venice from here.

Very Good

We were 5 women staying in the apartment for a long weekend during the carnival. The communication with Marina before arrival was excellent and she provided great instructions for getting to the nearest boat stop from the airport and had someone meet us and take us to the flat. The flat is large and very comfortable with a great view onto the grand canal from the front room. It is a historic building and the flat is a home therefore feels like someones house versus a hotel. For our party we loved it and felt at home. The kitchen was well equipped and we had towels and bedding and all that one requires for a great weekend. Thanks Marina
I'm going to leave a very honest review, even though I expect the host to leave a sharp reply.
This apartment is a nice place. It's located in a good area, close to everything, beautiful views, quiet, secure. As is, I would have enjoyed it.
But.
It's not the apartment I rented. The property listing is misleading in some aspects and outright false in others.
1. There is no kitchen. This may be a misunderstanding with how the listing is formatted, but in reading reviews some write specifically about a full kitchen and dining room. In fact, the version of the apartment I had was supplied only with a side table with a coffee maker, electric kettle some dishes and some tea and coffee packets. There is a mini fridge, thank goodness.
2. There is no washer. There is no ironing board nor iron unless requested from the host, who let me borrow it only for a couple days. I had specifically checked for wash facilities and packed accordingly, then had to wash my clothes in the bathtub.
3. At the time of my stay there was no elevator. It was being installed as I stayed there, but the work crew had only just started. The listing said elevator, but this was a lie. I had to haul my two 45 lb bags up and down three flights of stairs.
4. Unrelated to the listing but important - the host entered the apartment twice during my stay. The first I was notified of - plumber needed to fix something on the radiators. The second time I was NOT notified and was woken at 9:30 am to the sound of people coming in my door. This is and never will be OK. Ever.
These aren't unrealistic expectations or "American standards." These are simple expectations that what your customers book and pay for is what they are getting. Truth in advertising. There was no need to be dishonest or do some kind of switch with the properties. It's a beautiful place and can stand on its own without lying about amenities. I suspect the apartment "grows" or "shrinks" to include rooms (like a kitchen) or not. Maybe the host thought I didn't need these things because I was just one person? Who knows.
Marina, you're a really nice person. I don't think you are meaning to deceive people. I hope not. Please update your listing to be more accurate and I think you'll find much happier customers.

Like Camping at Grandma's!
This spacious apartment is full of adventure! Of course it's lovely, and has a wonderful situation, being right on the Grand Canal and so close to all the attractions in Venice. It's a charming flat with a lot of flavor and character, very unique. My husband and I stayed here and enjoyed soaking in the big bathtub after long walks around Venice, which kept us limber and happy.
We had fun figuring out where to sleep - we ended up on the futon in the piano room which was quite comfortable after we moved the bedding from the main bed. We have a tempurpedic at home and the futon came the closest to reproducing that feeling, so we rested quite nicely after we got it figured out. We were glad it was just the two of us and we had that option.
To be comfortable in this flat, bring toiletries - they don't seem to be provided. You should also ensure you have a lighter or matches for the stove, in case there isn't an operational one in the kitchen. Little things, but very important. Marina thoughtfully left coffee for the little espresso maker.
In order to really enjoy the view of the canal, you'll want to open the window and step out on the little balcony. The views of the architecture up and down the canal from you are very photogenic. The living room furnishings have a lot of character and will be even more wonderful when they have new cushions or stuffing... We found ourselves hanging out in the kitchen, where seating was most comfortable. We aren't inclined to complain at all, and this flat is both economical and roomy, but if you are more interested in comfort than economy or location you may enjoy your stay less than we did.
Also, be certain to ask for Marina's cell number and the specific address and flat number, so you can ring the bell when you arrive. Sadly, I didn't have either one and we waited outside for an hour before connecting with her. Be aware that you may not get internet reception or cell service in the area around the flat, so knowing which bell to ring is important!
All in all, it took a day or so to get it all figured out, and we enjoyed the Ca del Duca. For seasoned travelers, this beautiful place will provide the local flavor you enjoy and look for in the neighborhood, the historical house itself, and the gorgeous interior. A nice memory of Venice for us.

Mitten in Venedig.....

BEAUTIFULLY LOCATED BUT BAD FOR SLEEP!
Marina is a lovely person. She communicated well with us and met us as planned at the unit to give us the keys. Her directions were spot on in locating the unit. The unit is as stated, right on the Grand Canal in a nice neighborhood and very well located for restaurants, shops, markets, people watching, sightseeing. The unit was clean. Marina also allowed my piano-playing daughter to use her beautiful grand piano!
There is a big kitchen with table seating for 8 and stocked with pots and pans and dishes. The front room that faces the canal is a great place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. There are tons of books and memorabilia throughout the large unit which make it interesting if a bit cluttered.
Now for sleep. Ca del Duca states there is sleeping for 7 people. This is not true. There is one room with 2 twin beds supplied with linens and a lumpy, uncomfortable day bed that does not have linens. There is a "master" bedroom which has a king size bed with linens and there is another room, where the piano is located that has a "double" futon that is hard as a rock and has no linens. One of the couples traveling with us could not sleep there together as it was too small and uncomfortable. To me that is sleeping for 4. Marina could easily convert the other two "beds" into comfortable sleeping areas by replacing the mattresses and adding comfortable bed linens.
Also, we were not made aware of the mosquito problem. The master bedroom has screens on the windows. There were no other screens and we enjoyed opening the windows onto the Canal. However, in doing so, we were bombarded by mosquitos! Our 4 children traveling with us were literally eaten alive at night and through the evening. We noticed there were marks on the walls and it turns out they were previously smashed mosquitos.
Lastly, the towels need to be replaced. My husband said he wouldn't use them to dry his car!
With a little bit more attention to detail Marina's home would be a very comfortable and inviting place to be. For us, sleeping was a nightmare.

Amazing flat, great location, breathtaking view
This flat clearly exceeded our best expectations. having stayed in several Homelidays' flats in the last few years I wouldn't doubt to say this was by far the best we ever stayed in. It is surely one of those (few) cases in which the reality dramatically overmatches the photos provided in the advert.
Located in St. Mark's neighborhood, but luckily outside St. Mark's most crowded areas, the flat is very close to every place you might want to visit. The Alilaguna-boat from the airport has a stop just five minutes away from the flat, where Marina offered to meet us, and there is a vaporeto stop even closer (two minutes away from the house). The courtyard that gives access to the house is nice and quiet and has a passage to the Canal Grande. Inside, the flat is very spacious and very tastefully decorated — you never get the feeling of being in a short-term renting flat, but rather in the flat you would like to live in, if you ever were to live in Venice. The advert does not include photos of the kitchen and the two bathrooms, which are all really very spacious. The cosy kitchen is completely equipped with everything you might need and we cooked there every evening, just as easily as if we were home — we were a group of six people, but the kitchen's table is surely big enough to sit ten people! Last, but surely not the least: from the five windows of the living room and the grand-piano's studio the front view to the Canal Grande is absolutely breathtaking!
After having stayed in this flat, I wouldn't imagine going back to Venice and staying anywhere else.
Thank you, Marina!
