Great except for beds

Stayed in twin room at The Derwent. Mattresses need throwing out. Full of old creaky springs. Not fit for purpose. Housekeeping fitted mattress toppers on request which made beds useable but not good. Communal areas and pool lovely. Clean rooms.

Feel you must review your fire evacuation procedures. I was on 3rd floor when alarm went off and must say there was no way I was able to exit via the stairs. The stairs from top to bottom were chic a bloc with very old people who could not get down the very steep and narrow stairs. Maybe all guests who have trouble using stairs should be allocated ground floor rooms.

A lot of noise from the corridor, next door rooms, and traffic outside (due to very poor insulation, people and traffic all behaved normally). Extremely smelly bathroom, with a bathroom door that couldn't close. So combined this was rather uncomfortable. Did not feel comfortable enough to even go near the pool facilities. I'd probably have left if I would have needed the room from more than a short night. The decor is tired and the room was quite small, but with better insulation that wouldn't have mattered so much.

Loved the stay

Loved the stay. Room was good, spacious and warm. Bathroom was clean and nice water flow. The swimming pool and Jacuzzi were a great fun. Food was enjoyable at the restaurant too.

Overall stay was ok. We did however find the bed unacceptable. The mattress was very uncomfortable as the springs seemed to protrude up through it which you could feel as we lay on it, and the bed itself was incredibly creaky.

Keep expection low and see the positives

We had an interesting start with trying to find our parking spot, but reception were really helpful. On discovering the accessibility problems the hotel has, reception sent up an extremely helpful young man (Tommy), to help us access the hotel... he discovered our original room was actually acceptable and swiftly contacted reception and sourced a new room , sadly, although more accessible, the bathroom really wasnt. So Tommy to the rescue again and we finally had a suitable room which was very clean even though it was a bit dated, but the bathroom seemed brand new! We stayed in site for our entire 3 night stay and had a thoroghly wonderful time! We enjoyed the breakfast and dinner package and the spa was amazing! We hope to return with the children soon

Great Stay for a family

It was a great stay, the kids had fun in the pool, and the breakfast in the morning was good too. Room service was nice and the staff were polite too. Parking wasn’t free but was right next to the hotel, overall a great stay.

Lovely stay

We had a lovely stay in Derwent hotel. We really enjoyed the indoor and outdoor pool. The rooms were clean but need a upgrade. We enjoyed the dinner in the restaurant. The breakfast was fine but need to include more choices.

The hotel was a easy walk up the hill from the Beach, shops and park. We had a family room and it was on the 3rd floor, it was as though we had been forgotten, small narrow corridors, very hot no air con, chipped dirty paintwork, very old fashioned and dated. We had to report the broken shower and toilet twice before getting fixed and then the toilet wasn't.

The property itself was in good shape considering the age food in general was ok ….. as for the mattresses in the rooms it’s like sleeping on a rack from the Middle Ages…. Definitely need new or at least a mattress topper… I’d possibly return if the bedding was changed and was able to get a good deal.

Ignore the pictures of the hotel when booking

The room was nothing like those pictured actually the total opposite. Only one window opened so the room was a sauna and the curtains didn’t close fully. The whole hotel was a sauna other than the swimming pool that was an ice bath! No housekeeping on Saturday but wasn’t informed of this so had to go to reception to get more milk and was told we couldn’t get more towels so had to go out and buy some.

The room, particularly carpet, was not very clean and decoration tired. It is really difficult to find one's way around thee hotel and the whole complex. Colour coded signage and far more of it would help. It's hard to take advantage of facilities when information is so poor.
