Classic home overlooking the St. George River with deck & great views
Built in the 1960s by Etta and Almond Hall on land that had been owned by their family for 200 years, Etta's House is everything a summer cottage on the St. George River should be. The cottage, with stunning views of the river, still makes you feel like you're a million miles from everything that isn't as important as salt breezes, peace, and quiet.
Step inside to find exposed beams and vintage bead-board cabinets existing in harmony with such modern conveniences as a full-size kitchen, free WiFi, and a flatscreen TV with a DVD player. Large picture windows let in lots of natural light and cooling breezes. The deck spans the entire front of the house, offering a bistro dining set, a lounge chair, and three Adirondack chairs. A gas grill is also provided. Back inside, there are two bedrooms partitioned with three-quarter walls.
Here in the Wiley's Corner area of St. George, you'll be a quick and scenic drive from Tenants Harbor and Rockland.

This property has a beautiful view from both the living and dining rooms as well as the deck and ranks high on the “charming cabin” list. The kitchen is fine, but does not include much in seasonings, coffee etc. The bathroom is very small, but fully updated with some storage that guest can use. Same for the bedroom. BUT! If you are over 6’ tall, you may feel uncomfortable here. My 6’ tall husband’s hair brushed the top of each doorway. The ceiling in the living room is only 7’. The ship’s ladder to the upstairs sleeping lift is very steep and could be difficult for children, the elderly or those above average in size or weight. A little difficult to find the first time on a dirt road. Be sure to arrive in daylight!
The location was lovely and private but there was no WiFi which was included in the description, the outdoor gas grill did not work, one window was missing a screen so there were mosquitoes in the house and the bedroom and bathroom doors did not close properly. And the couch smelled like dog pee. I have rented houses in Maine for the last several years and you always had someone to contact if there were any issues. We reached out to Vacasa several times but they were of no help. Plus Vacasa charges so many extra fees. This was almost double the price of what we have paid in the past. Another example of a corporation coming in and ruining something good by squeezing the last dime out of the situation and removing the personal fun aspects. Vacasa is horrible.
This property is as advertised. A rustic, but well kept Maine camp. Not on the water, but looking over the water with beautiful sunsets. I was only there in the evenings and early am- attending a 9-5 workshop daily. I only comment with low score for check-in -as the keycode box did not function. It took from 5:30-9pm - of texting and phone calls. The trouble shooting (using same steps over and over with different people thru the texting system), finally talking with the local vrbo manager, and finally a handyman coming and opening the cabin. He replaced the battery to the keycode box... From that point on, I used a key that was in the cabin. (Another lockbox was on a 2nd door, but there was no key in the lockbox, so that step did not help me gain access). So, it was a bit of a pain. After 2 hours, I was online trying to find alternative lodging. Then the local manager called and spoke to me in person (not texting). Everyone thru the process was very polite- and especially the local manager and the handyman. I doubt this will happen again. It is a semi- remote location, so attention to proper functioning of the key pad will likely be done in the future.
